Ubisoft sunsets online services for dozens of legacy games

Ubisoft no longer offers online service for many of its games. On April 21st, 90 games of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 eras will stop offering online multiplayer. They also no longer provide in-game information and statistics. Some impacted franchises include Just Dance, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Splinter Cell. Ubisoft announced the change on the company’s website.

For affected games, offline play will still be possible. Ubisoft stated that these changes had also rendered unlockable content such as maps and skins in the game. Playable content that is not available on the console version will be accessible to those with the game, unless the user resets their save file. But oddly enough, Windows PC players will no longer get access to this content, “even if it has been redeemed previously.”

The full list of impacted titles can be found on Ubisoft’s website. Most of these games are quite old and some are still on outdated platforms such as the OnLive cloud gaming platform. There are some classic games like Assassin’s Creed 2Online functionality will not be available anymore, however newer versions of the remastered version will. Notable titles are: Far Cry Far Cry 2Windows PC, as well as Rainbow Six Vegas Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
