Tony Hawk Says Activision Killed Plans For More THPS Games

Remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 were planned at some point until publisher Activision pulled the plug. Tony Hawk, the streamer andyTHPS discussed this series.

According to Hawk, the “plan” was to develop remakes for THPS 3 and 4 following the release of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 remake. Activision merged THPS1 with Vicarious Visions, the 2nd developer, into Blizzard, complicating this plan.

They were looking for someone to help them. [Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater]Hawk states in the clip that 3 and 4 were not the right people to trust. They took pitches from other studios instead. “Like, ‘What would you do with a THPS title?’ They didn’t like what they heard and that was it.

It doesn’t seem like THPS3 or 4 were actively being developed. Hawk claims that the project was already in development, although he doesn’t say if it was actually in production. Activision’s willingness to move the series in a new direction is even more curious. It’s not a good idea historically.

This news is especially sad because after years of a lack of skateboarding games the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 appeared to signal that the King of Action Sports was returning. As we said in our review,  “the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise may once again have a bright future thanks to this terrific blast from the past.” History proves the contrary.

Skateboarding has seen a revival in recent years. There’s also Vicarious Visions Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater revival. There’s also OlliOlli World, Skate City, Session, and Skater XL.
