The best-reviewed movie ever via Rotten Tomatoes leaves Netflix July 4
In the wake of multiple prolonged wars in the Middle East, the last decade of American cinema has frequently grappled with the lives of veterans who return to a country that isn’t willing to offer them much. Some movies have successfully filtered that idea through the crime-thriller genre — Michael Bay’s Ambulance This movie is one of the best examples in recent movies that show ex-soldiers turning to criminal activity to make ends meet. But if you’re looking for something a little less high-octane, you can’t do better than Leave No TraceThe Netflix original ‘, will be leaving the service on July 4th.
Debra Granik, an Oscar nominated director and writer (Winter’s Bone), Leave No Trace The movie also has the highest approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 100%. It beats out Toy Story 2. I don’t put much stock in Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s right on the money with this one.
Leave No Trace Will (Ben Foster), a PTSD veteran, is followed by his daughter Tom (Thomasin McKinzie). The couple live peacefully in a forest reserve near Portland. When a jogger finds them, the park rangers are called in and their life is turned upside down.

The story is thoughtful and sensitive, it explores the themes of family, trauma and community. Leave No Trace This film highlights people who are on the margins of society. It’s anchored by fantastic performances that immerse viewers in the central father-daughter relationship — Foster is always reliable for his troubled, quiet intensity, and McKenzie shines as the wise-beyond-her-years Tom. This lush cinematography makes the Pacific Northwest forest greens come to life.
Leave No Trace It’s one of my favorites of all time, and you can have it too. You’ll want to catch it on Netflix before July 4th. And if you’re coming to this recommendation after that time, the movie is also available for free with a library card on Hoopla or Kanopy, and for digital rental or purchase on Amazon, Apple TV, and Vudu.
