Amazon Prime Day 2023: what to expect
Amazon Prime Day? It’s an annual two-day deal event held exclusively for Prime subscribers. In 2023, it’s happening Tuesday, July 11, through June 12. Prime Day is a major event because it’s one of a few chances outside of Black Friday to get huge price cuts. It’s also noteworthy because Amazon’s massive influence causes retailers like Best Buy, Target, Walmart, among many online stores to drop their prices, too.
Prime Day should be on your radar if you’ve got a lot of things you want to buy or give as gifts. What can you anticipate being discounted during Prime Day without having any idea of what the offers are? I’m going to give you some big hints, shy of telling you what’ll be discounted.
Subscription is the first step
Amazon Prime offers a 30-day subscription trial that lasts through Prime Day. Everyone else pays $14.99 per monthly or $139 annually. In addition to being your golden ticket to access Prime Day deals, you’ll get fast shipping, Prime Video content, and more.
The cost of tabletop games and boardgames will drop
If you’ve scouted our best board games post, or frequently follow my colleague Charlie Hall’s tabletop coverage, there’s a chance you might find some of those products selling for less during Prime Day. A great way to get some board games at a discount is for you and your family or friends to have some fun during the summer.
It’ll be a great time to get gaming accessories
What exactly do you mean when I say gaming accessories? Well, everything. You can expect to find discounts on gaming controllers, fast SSDs for PS5 and PC, microSD cards for the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and Asus ROG Ally, and a lot more — basically, the stuff you might want to kit out your gaming setup will be discounted. Also, I expect that the discounts will extend to gaming monitors as well as keyboards for laptops, headsets and other peripherals. As soon as July 11th arrives, you will be able to read all about it.
Get your video games, boxsets, and movies.
Prime Day offers a fantastic opportunity for gamers, movie fans, anime lovers, and others who enjoy entertainment. You can expect to find huge discounts for all the items listed above. This will give you more to add to your shopping list. Pre-orders may be discounted.
Prime members can now get free DLC and games
Amazon will give away free games and digital content to subscribers who claim their goodies. So far, Arkane Studios’ Prey You can also find out more about the following: Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition are some of the highlights, but there’s more. Overwatch 2Some players are able to skip 5 levels on the Battle Pass. COD: WarzoneBeauty products and much more.
The heat is coming from other retailers
Target, Best Buy and Walmart will all be participating in Prime Day by hosting their own deals events. In the past few years, retailers have gotten better at matching — sometimes exceeding — Amazon’s own price cuts. As such, it’s certainly worth shopping outside of Amazon if you aren’t seeing the price drops you’re looking for.
There are some great deals already on offer
Amazon’s growing batch of early Prime Day 2023 deals are decent, but they aren’t setting the world on fire. That’s intentional; the company is holding its big guns for July 11 and July 12. Still, I encourage you to check them out ahead of Prime Day, as we’re adding new deals to that post.
If you wish, you can also track your own deals.
Polygon works hard to bring you the best deals for products that we know and love. When you wake up on July 11 and head to our site, you’ll be greeted with more deals than you’ll know what to do with. However, if you’re someone who only wants to engage minimally with Prime Day, or is picky about the prices they’ll buckle for, we suggest tracking deals yourself. Luckily, you can find a whole post of useful tips and tools.
