The 5 best Korean dramas to stream on Netflix this fall

Netflix has just imported new K-dramas for the fall.

So far, the year 2023 for Korean dramas has not been very exciting. While there have been some bonafide hits — including The GloryYou can also find out more about the following: King of Land — no one series has completely overtaken the K-drama world or hijacked the more casual international K-drama audience either. But the year isn’t over yet, and Netflix has some major titles coming as part of their fall release schedule. Netflix’s fall release schedule includes five Korean dramas.


You have a Time Called You

Timey-wimey Romance: The Inspiration You have a Time Called YouThere is a popular Taiwanese Drama called One Day or SomedayKorean pop has a long history of combining time travel with romance. Il MareThe 2006 Hollywood movie was inspired by the romance film. The Lake House. The film also starred Lee Jung-jae as a teenager, many years before Squid GameHis popularity in the West has made him instantly recognisable. And it’s not particularly uncommon to stumble upon a modern K-drama that casually incorporates time travel into its plot. Still, there’s something special about a K-drama — or any drama — that uses time travel as a central conceit, and You have a Time Called You definitely qualifies. Jeon Yeo ben () is the star of this series.Vincenzo, Glitch) as Han Jun-hee, a woman who is grieving the death of her boyfriend, Ko Yeon-Jun (Dr. Romantic’s Ahn Hyo-seop) a year after the fateful incident. A time-travel romance begins when Jun-hee, who is a young girl, unexpectedly returns to 1998. She wakes up as Min-ju and encounters a boy that looks like her deceased boyfriend.


Songs of the Bandits

Billed as a Korean Western and a “wild action spectacle” by Netflix, Songs of the BanditsThe most anticipated Kdramas this season. This show takes place in South Korea In a part of China known historically as Jiandao where Koreans escaped Japanese occupation at the beginning of the 20th century. Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is the name of the area in China today, which is home to over 800,000 Koreans.

The series is an action period drama set in the 1920s, and will follow some of the Korean refugees who fled to the “lawless land” of Jiandao (also known as Gando to Koreans) and unite to protect their settlement from harm. Kim Nam-gil (Memoirs of a murderer: Queen Seondook) stars as Lee Yoon, a Korean serving under the Japanese military who decides to become a bandit to protect the people of Jiandao. Girls Generation member Seo-hyun (First time Jinxed) costars as Nam Hee-shin, a woman hiding her true identity as she works for the Japanese-controlled railway bureau. Expect plenty of intrigue and gunfights from this one, which could be 2023’s Mr. Sunshine — or, perhaps, be good enough to be spoken of without comparison.


Doona!

This adaptation is from a Webtoon Comic of the Same Name. Doona!This is the tale of Lee Doo-na, a former pop idol.Start-Up’s Bae Suzy) who has become a recluse after her abrupt retirement from the limelight. She meets Lee Won Joon, a university student.It’s My Country, the New Age’s Yang Se-jong, back from mandatory military service), who lives in her apartment building, the two fall for one another.

Comparing the recommendations in this list to other suggestions, Doona!It is not a large-scale drama, but these can be the best K-dramas. The anticipation for Doona!Webtoon creator Min Song Ah is adapting her original story for film. You Crash LandedBehind the camera is director Lee Jung Hyo.

This is one of the most anticipated Netflix K-dramas for this Fall. It stars two of Korea’s most recognizable international stars: Park Seo-joon (Itaewon Class, Concrete UtopiaThe MCU will debut in the fall of this year with a new MCU movie. MarvelsHan So HeeMy Name, Jungkook’s “Seven” music video). The cast, promotion and renewal of the second season suggest that it has a good budget.

It is also a good premise, which was crafted by Dr. Romantic scribe Kang Eun-kyung. Gyeongsang Creature is set in historic Seoul, which was occasionally called “Gyeongsang” during the Joseon dynasty and, more officially, during Japanese occupation. Taking place in the spring of 1945, at the tail end of Japan’s forced annexation of Korea, Gyeongsang CreatureThis film will also combine historical events and supernatural drama in a similar way The TerrorAMC did two great seasons. It follows Park’s Jang Tae-sang, a wealthy pawn shop owner who knows everything that goes down in the city, and Han’s Yoon Chae-ok, a bounty hunter who tracks down missing people, as they go up against monsters who have been plaguing the city. They will probably fall in love during the course of their battle. (Tae-san and Chae-ok, not the monsters… we assume.)


Sweet Home 2

Of course, it’s not just new series that will be coming to Netflix this fall. We’re also getting the return of some already established fan favorites, including Sweet Home. One of Hollywood’s more hotly debated influences on the Korean TV industry is a move away from the one-and-done format. Previously, Korean dramas almost always ran for a a single season. On rare occasions, they would run longer. The following are some examples of how to use popular, they might get a few additional “special” episodes, but, for the most part, it was single, complete seasons all the way. Netflix and other U.S. streaming services have invested in Korean drama production, so it is more common to see K-dramas constructed for multiple seasons, which has changed the format of traditional K-dramas.

Sweet HomeThe first season of this horror show was always intended to be a series, as it left room for a second story. It is already considered to be one of the greatest Webtoons ever. Sweet HomeFollows a group trapped in an apartment building during a zombie outbreak, which sees the people turn into mutant monsters. Song Kang stars in the series.However,, Forecasting Love and the WeatherThe building was occupied by Cha Hyun-su (a depressed and severely ill young man) who had just moved into it before the outbreak of the epidemic, after his family’s tragic death. Sweet Home is already greenlit for a third season, so if you’ve yet to check out the supernatural K-drama, here is the sign that you absolutely should. This show is an apocalyptic drama that doesn’t let viewers decide between its visceral horror or the character-driven drama.
