Super Replay | Mortal Kombat (2011) – Finale

With Mortal Kombat 1 out in the wild we’re revisiting the entry that set the series on its current trajectory: 2011’s Mortal Kombat (aka MK 9). We’ll take you on a journey of blood and destruction through this game’s story.  

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (2006) seemed to conclude the main storyline of the Mortal Kombat franchise. The 2011 entry continued the bloody tale. This entry moved the story forward, reset the timeline and served as a soft-reboot that returned Mortal Kombat’s 2D fighting roots. MK 9’s cinematic mode acted as an epiphany, for the whole series of fighting games and for fighting games in general. It established the blueprint for story-driven fighting campaigns that are still used today. MK9 is also the beginning of Mortal Kombat 1’s modern trilogy. This feature will give you a lot of information about MK9, its development and how it saved the franchise.
