Sony Has Delayed Half Of Its Planned PlayStation Live Service Games

Sony revealed that it would acquire Destiny 2 developer Bungie in January 2022 for $3.6 Billion. Hiroki Totoki, Sony CFO revealed at a quarter-end financial briefing that PlayStation was planning to release more than 10 games for its live service by March 20,26. Bungie would be helping Sony with this. Today, during an earnings conference, Totoki revealed that, of Sony’s 12 live-service games, only six will be available by the end of March 2026. Early this year Bloomberg reported that Bungie was evaluating some of PlayStation’s in-development offerings, including Naughty Dog’s Last of Us multiplayer project, which is reportedly on ice. Sony’s approach has changed after the evaluation, as at least six of its live service titles have been postponed.

We know that PlayStation is working on a multi-player project similar to Factions. It acquired Firewalk Studios back in April for the purpose of developing a AAA game. Guerrilla Games may also be developing an online multiplayer title set in Horizon’s world. Bungie’s Marathon is also in development, but it won’t just be available on PlayStation 5. It will also come to Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
It will take time to determine which PS5 users will play the six games in their live service by March 2026 and which have been delayed.
