One Piece’s Mr. 7 and the Baroque Works, explained

Netflix has brought back Luffy, the Straw Hat Pirates and their crew in a big way. Netflix has released its latest adaptation of One Piece The show will air on Thursday. Long-time and new fans will now be able see Luffy, his friends and their adventures as they make the transition from animated to live action.

Some viewers may have noted that the first episode begins by introducing characters and groups who are quite mysterious. The show doesn’t explain everything that’s going on, but that’s OK. One Piece is based on the long-running anime and manga of the same name, so we still have a strong idea of what’s happening.

You can learn all you need about Baroque Works, the mysterious organization that Mr. 7 represents, the character who was introduced in Zoro’s first episode.

What is Baroque Works?

It’s more helpful to explain what Baroque Works is before we get into Mr. 7, since that’s the organization he’s a part of.

[Ed. note: This explanation contains light spoilers for the Arabasta Arc in One Piece — which will probably be part of season 2 of the Netflix show.]

You can also find out more about the following: One Piece Seven pirates who are known as the Seven Warlords of the Sea, are aligned with the World Government. This concept seems counter-intuitive since the Marines normally fight against pirates. However, these pirates will be used as agents of government in exchange for immunity. Helmeppo can be seen explaining the system in Episode 5 of the Live-Action Series.

Sir Crocodile, or Warlord Crocodile is the name of one of seven warlords. Crocodile is the creator of Baroque Works, a secret organisation in anime and manga that aims to overthrow the Arabasta government. Baroque Works will be remembered because of the members that play major parts in the story. Its members include Mr. 7 and Miss All Sunday, the alter ego of the pirate Nico Robin — who long-time fans will be very familiar with.

One Piece: Who is Mr.7 in the live action?

In the live-action version of The Baroque Works, Mr.7 (played Ben Kgosimore), a man tries to recruit Zoro into Baroque Works. One Piece. Zoro then cuts him to pieces after a quick conversation.

Baroque Works members use a system of codenames where they are given special names according to their seniority. Therefore, if one Mr. 7 dies, he will be replaced by another “Mr. 7.”

Manga and anime depict a Mr.7 character who is a sharpshooter and wears a scarf. It is unlikely that this Mr. 7 in live action was the Mr. 7 who Zoro killed in the first scene. The manga confirms there was indeed a Mr. 7, who attempted to recruit Zoro and died while on duty.

Regardless of which Mr. 7 we’re talking about, both don’t play a large role in the manga and their connection to Baroque Works is more notable than any individual contribution to the story.
