Nintendo Switch Sports Carries On The Legacy Of Wii Sports In April

Wii Sports was a revolutionary addition to Nintendo’s console market. It came as a bundle with every Wii console. That compilation disc included five rudimentary sports titles and showed players the capabilities of the Wii’s then-groundbreaking motion controls. This compilation disc was immediately a smash hit and was well received by a broad range of demographics beyond Nintendo’s usual gaming audience. However, while the Nintendo Switch has now outsold the wildly popular Wii and it has its fair share of wide-reaching smash hits like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the console/handheld hybrid hasn’t had another transcendent game experience like the original Wii Sports. Now, with the aptly named Nintendo Switch Sports, fans of Wii Sports can relive past glories.

Nintendo Switch Sports brings together six different sports, and allows you to control them with the Motion Controls of your Switch Joy-Cons. This iteration also adds badminton and volleyball to the Sports line. You will also get a Leg Strap accessory if you purchase the physical Nintendo Switch Sports. This allows your Joy-Con track your leg and can be used for soccer’s Shootout Mode.

This summer’s first update adds the Leg Strap peripheral to the main game of soccer. A second update is available this fall and will allow you to play golf.

Nintendo Switch Sports will be available on Switch starting April 29. Nintendo Switch Online will host a play test on February 18, 20 and 21. This allows subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online to try out bowling, tennis, and chambara.
