NBA 2K23 Preview – Everything You Need To Know About NBA 2K23

NBA 2K is still in a rebuilding phase. Although it’s shown flashes on court and is experimenting with MyCareer RPG system, the team still needs to improve to be in the position to win the title it won years ago. The foundation was laid for a bright future, with more efficient defense, better perimeter play, and the great depth of MyTeam and The City. It’ll be interesting to see if Visual Concepts can build off of these gains in NBA 2K23 and continue to innovate on the court, and find ways to better integrate the WNBA into its modes. As usual, VC must be less intrusive.

We still don’t have insight into any of this year’s modes – other than the Jordan Challenge returning with 15 flashback moments from Michael Jordan’s career – but we do know what to expect from gameplay. Visual Concepts has used the word authenticity to describe this year’s changes. They seem to have applied a high degree of realism in the interactions between players as well as how the ball is played. These are some of the major additions and modifications you will see when NBA 2K23 launches September 9.

Easier Play
Visual Concepts is aware that NBA 2K has been a challenging game to get into. NBA 2K23’s rookie difficulty level makes it less difficult for players to start playing. This should help them get used to the complex gameplay and make their first moves.

For the pro stick, there are more pros
You can now perform switchbacks and double throws with the Pro Stick if you’re looking to make your offense more exciting. For a double throw you simply flick the stick in one direction and let it return to the center. Then, quickly flip it in the opposite direction. To perform a switchback you will flick the stick in one direction, then let it rest and flick in another. The player will move in one direction, but not the other, then make another motion. For cradle layups, you can use the Pro Stick.

Keep your eyes on the Rim
The metered skill-dunks have returned. You can now use your Pro Stick to indicate which direction the slam should be performed. You can perform a double-hand dunk if you flick upward. To flashy, one-hand dunks you can do by flicking down. The stick can be held in your hand to do a rim dive. Your opponent will not move. Your player will show strength if you push up on their right stick. Your player can swing by moving the left stick around. You’ll be penalized for hanging on to the rim too much. The ability of a player to bring down the entire backboard like ShaquilleO’Neal is still unknown. Visual Concepts states that the rim-hanging technology was in development for several years, and will be used for the latest-gen version.

Shooting is an art form
Visual Concepts’ view of the NBA 2K23 court play is as follows: Every type of jump shot has different stats. These include shot speed and release height as well defensive immunity, how effective the player is in defensive contests, timing impact, and timing impact. This last alters the shot window depending on how the player is timing the shot. Visual Concepts has increased the number shot animations by doubling their production. This is to add more variety and realism into offensive games. You can choose between five shot meters, which will show you if the shots are located above, below, or to your side. A strange twist is that Season play allows you to unlock an additional 15 shot meters. The shot feedback this year is slightly different. This delays the green flashes that indicate success, until the ball touches the rim. This increases drama, and players should stay at the hoops until play is over.

Stalls are killed with Adrenaline
Some players will stall during play, and then run out of time. They may also aimlessly dribble on the offensive end to prolong the shot clock. This should be stopped by a new adrenaline monitor. Every player is given three adrenaline boosts according to the stamina monitor. As they use more movement and specific actions like sprinting, their adrenaline will decrease faster. There’s a chance that the defense will take control of the situation if the adrenaline has run out. That should encourage shooting and pass.

The defensive play
Visual Concepts spent considerable time refining the footing for defenders in order to lessen the slide effect as well as improve the realistic feeling of sticking and planting with the ball handler. For one-on-one matchups, you’ll notice three new little meters under the ball handler that represent the defender’s position. They occupy the middle meter if the defender is directly in front. They are located in the left meter if they move to the right. They will be either cut off or lose the ball if they try to get into the occupied area. Visual Concepts believes there is enough time to adjust to the player’s movements. It is more difficult to get a shot out than last year. Visual Concepts reduced blocking while adding fly-by block to allow for perimeter shots.

Improved A.I.
Visual Concepts estimates that it will take at least two hours to analyze all the A.I. changes for this year. opponents. They are more strategic, have better pick-and-roll execution, and can run dynamic game strategies. A.I. is also a key component of star players. To imitate their real-life counterparts, star players can also have an A.I. A.I. can perform up to four moves on a star.

Badges are more complicated, but they sound better.
For players that have created badges, they are now back. Visual Concepts observed that last year’s players had become a bit too powerful by stacking identical badges. This was prevented from ever happening again. The badges were now divided into tiers. The first tier has eight badges, the second has four, and the third has four. The tier one badges have the lowest impact but are still useful. You will pay more for the higher tiers. Visual Concepts explains that you must use Tier 1 badges first before you can use Tier 2 or 3. It is hoped that this system will bring more variety to badge load-outs, and make it easier for players to strategize. The Team Takeover skill is not immediately apparent in the game this year. Before Team Takeover can take hold, each player will need to fill up their respective portions of the meter. This is another way NBA 2K23 strives for authenticity in the game.
