How to shield surf in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Shield SurfingThis is an important form of navigation in Tears of the Kingdom: The Legend of Zelda. It’s Like Tears Of The Kingdom’s predecessor, Breath of the Wild, you can hop on your shield and ride it like a board down slopes and mountains — You can’t have it without burning precious stamina.

Learn how to surf the shield in Tears of the Kingdom

You can shield surf on any shield you pick up — as soon as the Great Sky Island. It may take a while to master shield surfing until after Hyrule.

This is the short version of how you can surf shield by holding ZL to pull out your shield, jumping, and then pressing A while you’re still in the air.

Again, this can be hard to accomplish if you don’t have the paraglider or are at the very least jumping down some kind of angled slope. Shield surfing is a good way to traverse Tears of the Kingdom, no matter how you go about it.

Fuse enhances the shield surfing feature. Attaching Zonai gadgets allows you to cover more ground when shield surfing. Attach a Rocket LaunchersYour shield. The trick is faster and more interesting than simply running. Rockets will eat your energy cells, so you only have a few seconds to use the trick before it snaps.

If you’re looking to get some verticality with your shield, Fuse a The bomb barrelYou can attach them to your shield. These can be found throughout Hyrule once you’ve left the Great Sky Island — specifically where any Bokoblins are. What’s fun with this, is that if you have a bomb barrel when prompting shield surfing, it’ll actually give you a little boost by the way of an explosion. You can use this to get a little verticality for shield surfing, or help climb some terrain.

But keep in mind that Shield surfing can degrade shields, so don’t do it on any shield you actually want to keep around for boss fights or any other significant encounters.
