How to assign crew to ships and outposts in Starfield

StarfieldIt is important to have a crew for your ship and your outposts.

You can explore hub cities, watering holes and other attractions scattered throughout the country. Starfield, you’ll come across plucky pioneers who you can Persuade and pay to join your crew, each with their own set of unique skills to consider based on the skills you can choose during the level-up process. Some crew are better suited to be assigned to outposts while others have the skills necessary to aid you during a dogfight.

Once you’ve got pals on your team, you can choose how they are assigned by opening up the main menu and selecting the ship submenu in the bottom left corner. Then, you need to hit the Y button to enter the “Crew” screen.

From here, you’ll have a list of your available crew and some tabs across the top showing different designations across your current ship and outposts. You can select the member of crew you wish to assign and hit A to bring up a menu that allows you to choose the ship to which you would like to assign the person.

The amount of crew that you can allocate to your vessel will be determined by the ranking of the captain. Ship CommandYour ship’s crew and skill are factors that will affect the crew capacity.

The crew assigned to the outpost is StarfieldTo begin, choose a habitable planet. To do this, hit LB to open up your scanner on the planet’s surface and place an Outpost BeaconYou can also use the X key. You also don’t have to stick to one outpost — you can have multiple outposts in StarfieldYour crew can be divided accordingly.

After you build your outpost you will need to construct and position a crew stationYou can give them a home. A crew station costs two iron, five aluminum, and three nickel, so ensure you’ve mined or extracted those resources first.

Once you’ve placed a crew station at your outpost, you can open up the main menu, select the ship submenu in the bottom left corner, and then hit the Y button to open the “Crew” screen.

You can choose the member of your crew you wish to assign an outpost to by pressing the A key. This will bring up a submenu that displays all the outposts you have available. If your outpost is equipped with a crewstation, then you can assign your crew to that location.

To increase the number of crew on an outpost you need to add more stations to your crew and upgrade it. Outpost ManagementThe third-rank skill allows for the assignment of additional crews to outposts.
