Starfield tips to know before starting

StarfieldThere are many games to play. The game has a lot to offer. There are stuffed animals and ships to be smuggled, outposts that need to be built, as well as artifacts (and mysteries to solve) to collect. The game itself, though, isn’t really forthcoming about a lot of the details of playing it. We’ve collected 21 Tips and TricksWhat we wish we’d known Before Starting Starfield.

Everyone’s playthrough will be a little different

Sure, there’s the whole “your choices have consequences” part to any sprawling RPG, but, in StarfieldThe variation is a bit deeper. The settled planets and major cities you’ll visit are all predefined, so they won’t change or differ between players, but some smaller things on planets (like caves or bases) do appear to be randomly generated and randomly located. You’ll be playing missions that will take you to different planets and systems than the other players.

Don’t spend too long choosing a Background and trait(s)

During “One Small Step,” Starfield’s first campaign mission, you’ll be directed to choose a backgroundA backstory is a story about your character. This also affects the three abilities you have when you begin playing. You may choose to add up three traits. Don’t fret over your choice too much. Sure, you’ll get some bonus dialogue options here and there, but nothing that significantly alters the story. Focus your decisions on the skills that you wish to have at the start of the game.

If you can’t choose, our guides on the best backgrounds and best traits can help you decide.

For a little while, play the story missions.

We won’t go into any details due to spoilers, but we do recommend you play through the main story missions until you complete Into the Unknown.”The third and final mission can be played in any order. “Into the Unknown” rounds out the story of StarfieldNot playing all the way through the game before you get off track is a big mistake.

It’s worth mentioning in the same breath that you should also maybe step away from the main quest for a bit after this mission. The main quest is doable at a low level, if you just want to mainline it, but you’ll have a better time if you don’t get randomly killed by a high level enemy mid-campaign.

All factions are open to joining

There are four factions you can choose from StarfieldUnited Colonies VanguardThe Crimson Fleet. Freestar RangersRyujin Industries. Each faction offers a variety of gear and missions, which are more engaging than side quests (and in some cases even more so than the story itself). Best of all, you don’t have to commit to just one. Join them all from the beginning.

Skills is the key to many features

Starfield’s skills do more than just improve abilities. A lot of the game’s mechanics are locked behind the first level of an associated skill — which means you’ll have to put at least one skill point into that skill to even use the ability.

The term pickpocketing includes all forms of theft, including the act.TheftUse a booster pack to boost your game (Train with Boost PacksStealth Meters (StealthThe enemy’s ship is targeted by specific system (Targeting Control Systems), and several kinds of upgrades to your suit, ship, weapons, and outposts that won’t become available until you drop a point into their Skills.

Gain Security and Persuasion Skills with the Booster Pack.

Starfield has a lot of skills — a total of 82 (with four ranks each). In addition to the three abilities you receive from your history, there are a couple of other skills which will help make the first few minutes easier. They include Boost Pack Training and Persuasion. In our guide on the best skills, we explain why.

Auto-hacking and auto-persuasion are useful tools to use often

Once you get the Persuasion and Security skills, you’ll find more methods to get through several situations. And as you hack and persuade more people, you’ll bank “auto-persuade” and “auto-slot” options into your conversations and hacks respectively.

You’ll generate these bypasses pretty quickly as you play. Persuasion attempts are automatically successful. In contrast, auto-slot places a ring for you. Look in the lower-right corner of your screen to see if any auto slots or auto persuades are banked.

Menus are a big part of fast travel and navigation.

Navigation by stars Starfield’s Settled Systems involves a lot of digging through menus. You may need to adjust to the menus. You’ll have a lot of options to fast travel — both on a planet’s surface and between systems and planets — but it takes a bit of work to unlock and there are some unexpected restrictions on what you can and can’t do. Our guide on how fast travel works will explain it all. Starfield.

‘Set Course’ is the most helpful button in your menu

As we mentioned above, you’re going to need to get used to the star menu if you want to go anywhere in Starfield. At least until you learn the truth. “Set Course”You can find it at the bottom of the pause screen. Set Course automatically brings up the planet or fast travel destination for your quest when you click it. This is a great way to quickly jump back to the Lodge or to a planet that you’ve never been to before.

We didn’t notice the Set Course button until hours into our playthrough, but it instantly improved our collective experience once we found it.

You can use your scanner to find out the direction you need to go

Once you get to a planet or a ship to do the next mission objective, you’ll have markers on your HUD for your objective(s) and any extra optional objectives. There won’t, however, be a way to differentiate between those. You can use your handscanner to check for a faulty device. LB on console or The following are some of the most effective ways to increase your chances for success:You can now see the exact meaning of each blue diamond on your PC.

You can also follow the route highlighted by the scanner to achieve your next non-optional objective. This is great, because it can make cities seem labyrinthine. Ships can also be difficult to navigate, while buildings that have multiple levels can be confusing. It’s a huge help to have a path that glows. That said, we included “usually” in the last sentence because sometimes it just… doesn’t put down a path to follow, so your mileage may vary.

While we’re on the topic of moving around in cities…

Learn to Read Signs

There’s no minimap in StarfieldIt takes a little bit of effort to figure out which buildings in a city are shops. In every major settlement, there will be yellow kiosks that provide information. They’ll usually have a commerce section that lists all the places of business and their neighborhood.

Once you know what you’re looking for, read the signs on buildings. You’ll also find arrows and signposts that point to different points of interest. You won’t be able to navigate by a minimap, so you’ll just be relying on those signs and each store’s signage.

Other doors may have switches, but some doors only consist of doors.

The various outposts and bases you’ll find all over the Settled Systems are a real pain (see above for our tip on finding a way using the scanner). As you’re making your way through those places, though, you might run into doors that you can’t open.

It is possible to open the majority of doors by approaching them, then engaging with them. This is also how some airlocks operate. Occasionally, though, you might find doors that don’t pop up the “open” prompt. Look around to see if there is a switch, button, or computer nearby.

Multiple weapons can be equipped

It’s not immediately apparently, but you don’t need to open up your inventory and tab through five different submenus every time you want to switch weapons. The weapon switcher is accessed by using the You can also check out our Facebook page.A feature that allows you to equip more than one weapon on your device Quickslot Menu — technically up to 12, though you may want to reserve a slot for healing items.

Many different kinds of ammunition are available

Starfield’s weapons don’t have broad categories of ammo (like rifle or pistol) that they fire. The weapons are required to use a particular type of ammo from a list. You can purchase extra ammo by noting what your favorite guns use.

You should always be able to find ammo. And you never have to worry about finding too much because…

The weight of ammunition (and other items) is nothing

Luckily, all ammo has zero mass, so you’ll never fill up your inventory with it if you just loot every ammo drop you see. Similarly, med packs and digipicks (that’s Starfield for “lock pick”) weigh nothing. This stuff is easy to pick up.

Get free med packs

While you’re looting your way across the Settled Systems, you’ll need to watch for a little red arrow next to the item you’re considering. If it’s there, taking that item is stealing and might get you into trouble.

First aid stations are a good exception. You’ll see a lot of them around. The medpack or Aid item is usually safe for you to carry wherever you go. Look out for green lockers that are on the walls for free healing. Be on the lookout for red icons!

You don’t have to wear that

It seems that a 21st-century fact also applies to the 24th: A suit still looks like it does in today’s world. The Right Way to BuyIt’s better than any spacesuit. You can find it in your inventory under the Spacesuits tab, you can tap RB (on Xbox) to either show or hide your spacesuit when you’re in a settlement, making it so you walk around in your street clothes (the attire submenu) instead. Under the helmet you can also do this. helmets tab.

The value of a product is different from the price at which it can be sold

Sure, you’ll use some of the loot you pick up because it’s better than what you have equipped, but, for the most part, you’re filling your inventory with stuff to sell. You can see the price of any item you have in your inventory by looking at it. You can also value — the number of credits it’s worth.

It is important to remember that the value of each item is what is most important. You can also check out our other blog posts. The price you will be paid by a seller is the same. The starting point for the sell price is 13%. By adding points to the Commerce Skill, you can increase those numbers.

In general, the best-value items are weapons, gear, (suits), helmets, packs, etc. They’re also the heaviest things, though.

Trade kiosks are available every time you arrive on a new planet.

It’s one thing to get the right value, but it’s another finding a seller with enough credit for you offload your entire inventory. Most of the vendors are located in Starfield When you sell them something, they will have an incredibly small wallet. Specialty stores only accept smaller bills. You can find out more about this by clicking here. of your items — you cant sell a pistol to a clothier, for instance.

There is a yellow kiosk in the vicinity of every spaceport on any planet. This kiosk will buy anything you have to sell — even stolen goods — and resets its credit reserves daily. You can sell as much even after you have depleted the cash.

Asteroids are a great source of resources that you can mine.

Starfield doesn’t actually mention this, but you can shoot asteroids from your ship. When they’re destroyed, they’ll leave behind a mineral deposit. If you target it and then get within 500 meters, you’ll be able to pick it up for a few resources — usually things like iron or water.

A house can be purchased at first

You can pick up the Dream Home trait during character creation, you’ll start with a free house. You only have to pay 500 credits a week, and you can choose to foreclose your house if you don’t want to pay for it anymore.

It is not really useful

Keep your hands down The following are some of the most effective ways to increase your chances for success:PCs or Laptops LB on console to activate your flashlight (when you’re on a planet’s surface). The flashlight’s area of effect isn’t very big, so you may want to just increase your screen’s brightness as you trek through some of the darker caves.

Yes, console commands exist… on PC

Sorry, Xbox players, this trick doesn’t apply to you, but if you’re playing on PC and want to cheat your way into a bazillion credits — or to turn on god mode to avoid a tricky battle — you totally can. By pressing the button on your keyboard, you can access console commands. Console commands can be used from both platforms. Skyrim Bethesda fans should be familiar with the Fallout series of games.
