Final Fantasy 16 won’t be delayed, producer Naoki Yoshida says
Final Fantasy 16 will be released on PlayStation 5 on June 22, and with just a few months left until the action-focused role-playing game’s arrival, producer Naoki Yoshida feels confident about that date.
“I know Final Fantasy games can get delayed at the last minute,” Yoshida said in translated comments at a press event for Final Fantasy 16 held in New York earlier this month, but “unless a meteor falls on Japan, there will be no delay.”
While Yoshida didn’t outright name the OthersFinal Fantasy games were the ones he was talking about, but it was an inexplicable reference to recent mainline entries to the series. Final Fantasy 15And Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Square Enix had announced this six weeks earlier in 2016. Final Fantasy 15’s intended launch, that it was delaying the game another two months. Square Enix attributed the delay to polishing, as Hajime Tabata was the game director. This is the situation with Final Fantasy 7 RemakeSimilar results were seen in the early 2020 remake. Square Enix pushed back for seven additional weeks, after originally committing to a date.
These delays explain why Square Enix has never given a firm release date. Final Fantasy 16It took so much time. The publisher finally locked down the game’s June release date in December at The Game Awards.
Final Fantasy 16Original announcement was made in September 2020. Yoshida explained that the COVID-19 epidemic severely delayed development. Yoshida also stated in 2021 that the publisher was too cautious to release the game within a specific timeframe until 2023, when the summer release date was set.
Final Fantasy 16If all goes well, it will be available for PlayStation 5 on June, barring any cataclysmic catastrophe. An earlier announcement of a PC version has been made, however there was no release window.
