Forspoken Developer Luminous Productions Merging Into Square Enix

Square Enix, following the recent release of Forspoken, has confirmed that Luminous Productions the developer of the game will join the company. 

Given that Luminous Productions is already a Square Enix studio, it’s a surprising announcement. But now, it seems that Luminous Productions as an individual entity will be no more and, thus, won’t be seeing its name appear on future titles.

According to the press release, “The Company is attempting to boost the Group’s competitive prowess as a development studio,” the announcement reads. Square Enix is a developer of many AAA-quality high definition (HD) titles and has a lot of IP and content. Luminous Productions Co., Ltd. meanwhile has not only the technical skills in game engine design but is also capable of developing AAA titles. The Group will be able to create HD games even more by combining the two entities. 

You can clearly see that Square Enix has merged Luminous Productions into the larger Square Enix umbrella. The reason why is still unknown. It could be due to Forspoken’s mixed reaction at its release. But that’s just speculation.
