Ex-cop arrested, accused of stalking World of Warcraft Twitch streamer
Evan Baltierra (ex-Los Angeles World Airport Police officer) was arrested by federal police for stalking and harassing an ex-officer. World of WarcraftTwitch streamer. According to the California Department of Justice Baltierra (29 years old) will appear at United States District Court Tuesday.
Baltierra is accused of stalking and harassing Nali, an ex-Twitch streamer who uses the online name Nali, since 2020. Nali posted a TwitLonger description of the harassment she received in January. It stated that Baltierra was harassing her, her boyfriend and their families, and also spreading photos where her face was resected onto bodies. In a news release, the California Department of Justice noted Baltierra first met the streamer at 2019 BlizzCon, Blizzard Entertainment’s annual gaming convention, during a meet-and-greet with fans. His Twitch stream was moderated by him before he met Nali at BlizzCon. According to Steven Wrathall (Federal Bureau of Investigations Special Agent) and reviewed by Polygon, Nali took his place.
The affidavit states that Baltierra’s harassment escalated from there, before Nali, a Canada resident, filed a restraining order against Baltierra. Nali claimed in a TwitLonger posting that she received funds from GoFundMe for her lawyer. Baltierra signed a civil contract, stating that he would cease harassing the streamer.
He allegedly kept harassing Nali and others connected to her, including sharing personal information — like her full name and a P.O. box address — that he had learned during the hearing. Nali and her family were also threatened with violence by him. He tried to get a private investigator hired to locate her home address. His background as a former U.S. Marine and an ex-Los Angeles World Police Officer was also said to have been used as an intimidation tactic.
(According to the affidavit, Baltierra served with the Marines for “at least one combat deployment,” and worked “briefly” as a police officer, “but did not complete his probationary period and resigned.” Polygon has reached out to the U.S. Marines and Los Angeles World Airport Police press offices for confirmation.)
Blizzard reportedly banned Baltierra multiple times — including a permanent ban — from World of Warcraftdue to harassment. According to the affidavit, Baltierra tried to appeal the bans. However, she was not granted. Blizzard also reportedly hired an “extra security person” for Nali at events, she told police, and Baltierra’s photograph was distributed among security, with Baltierra described as someone who is a threat.
On March 22, the FBI searched Baltierra’s home and found “many” saved “photoshopped nudes” of the streamer, as well as evidence that he owned the email addresses from which a number of harassing messages had originated.
A maximum of five years in federal prison awaits him if convicted.
