Dumb Money is a movie about GameStop’s stock market frenzy
GameStop’s moment in the sun as the world’s premiere meme-stock, and one of the most important assets on Wall Street, passed a while ago. But that means that the based-on-a-true-story adaptations are just getting started — though there have already been several documentaries. A trailer for You can’t Dumb Down Your Money, a retelling of the story with a star-studded cast, was released on Thursday ahead of the movie’s Sept. 22 release date.
Dumb MoneyKeith Gill, played by Paul Dano, is a guy who’s a bit of a streamer and a normal-ish person. He bets all his savings in a big stock hunch. Gill posts his big bets on GameStop and encourages others to follow suit. As a result, billionaires who are trying to short GameStop’s stock have been thrown into chaos.
The cast of both the upper and lower classes has assembled a ridiculously gifted group of actors to adapt the story. Dano is not the only actor who has been cast in this adaptation.
