Diablo 4 Boasts Five Explorable Regions With Over 150 Dungeons

Blizzard Entertainment released a Diablo IV Quarterly Update yesterday, and several devs chimed in on what the upcoming open-world RPG will offer players. Joe Shely, recently appointed game director, stated that Diablo IV would be an “immersive world” where you can explore and get lost. They were made more powerful when Matt McDaid, the lead exterior artist and Brian Fletcher, art director of environment added that Sanctuary (the world/mortal realm), has five regions to explore with over 150 Dungeons.

Diablo IV has a lot to offer. Each foray is unique because of the dynamic lighting, weather effects and props in Diablo IV’s dungeons. Visual storytelling and direction are two of the pillars that the team emphasizes. They call them “old masters” or “return to despair.” Chris Ryder is the art director.

We approach the creation of Diablo IV’s environments with a deeper and more grounded view than in previous installments. We can filter through the “old masters” column by looking at Rembrandt’s techniques, which include careful use of detail and a wide range of colors. The “returning to darkness” column is an essential part of everything, from lighting to dungeons. This pillar embodies Sanctuary’s dark and dangerous medieval gothic world.

Although much has been written about Diablo IV’s dark aesthetic, it is quite different to see it and play in it. There is blood and bodies everywhere, a world without much hope, ridiculously dark – after Diablo III, it’s a stark contrast indeed. Moving through the world to try and find as many cool things as I can before the demo time runs out, I manage to clear out both dungeons available before the end … The task of slaughtering monsters en masse is as satisfying as ever, a loop that I’m sure will feel more meaningful outside of a demo where leveling and customization aren’t available. The demo of Diablo IV shows a lot about the game’s direction.
