The Fighters is the easiest class to understand. Baldur’s Gate 3, but they’re more than just good at punching. Sure, that’s how they start out, but, as they level up, they come to control every field of battle they encounter. The primary stat of the character is Strengthening Your Body.

Read on to find out everything you need to know about the Fighter class, and see if it’s the class you want to start with.


Fighter class features

The Hit Points

  • Hit Dice — 1d10 per Fighter level
  • First Level Hit Points — 10 + your Constitution modifier
  • Increased Hit Points — 6 + your Constitution modifer per Fighter level after 1st

Actions

At level 1, Fighters get Second WindA Bonus Action restores 10d10 Hit Points once for each long or short Rest.

Level 2 fighters receive the The Action Surge You can take an additional action at your turn. Action Surge refreshes itself with either a long or short rest.

Fighting Style

Specialized fighters select a fighting style:

  • Archery — Gain a +2 to ranged weapon attacks
  • Defense — Gain a +1 to Armor Class while wearing armor
  • Dueling — Deal +2 damage when fighting with one one-handed weapon
  • Great Weapon Fighting — When you roll a 1 or 2 for damage with a two-handed melee weapon, that die is rerolled
  • Protection — When you have a shield, impose Disadvantage on an attack against your allies when you are within 5ft.
  • Two-Weapon Fighting — When you make an attack with your off-hand weapon, you can add your Ability Modifier to the damage of the attack.

Fighter subclasses

Level 3 fighters select one of three classes.

Battle Master

Battle Master Fighters is a series of maneuvers that focuses on tactics and techniques.

The Battle Masters can be used four times per rest, whether it is short or long. Superiority Dice Feature that Power Maneuvers. You’ll also get to pick three Maneuvers from a list of 14.

Commander’s Strike Spend an action, and then a response to instruct an ally on how to attack a foe.
Disarming Strike Use a superiority dice to deal an extra 1d8 of damage to the target and force them to drop their weapons.
Distracting Strike Your allies will benefit from the distraction of your target when they next attack against it.
Avoiding Footsteps It is possible to avoid attacks by applying Disadvantage against melee attack made at you during a single round.
Feinting Attack On a given turn, you can attack an opponent with advantage and do 1d8 more damage by using both your actions and bonus actions.
Goading Attack You can also try to provoke the target by dealing an extra 1d8. The target is given a Disadvantage when attacking another creature.
Maneuvering Attack Spend a die of superiority to make an attack which deals 1d8 additional damage. Select which creature gains half the speed of its own movement when it is hit. This will prevent any attacks from being made.
Threatening Attack Spending a superiority dice to attack the target with an extra 1d8 of damage.
Precision Attack Spend a die of superiority to increase the results of a Roll.
Pushing Attack Spend a die of superiority to deal an additional 1d8 damages and push the target up to 15 ft.
Rally Spend an superiority die for 8 temporary hitpoints to be granted to an ally
Riposte If a hostile opponent misses a melee strike on you, spend a superiority to deliver a powerful attack that does an additional 1d8 damages.
Sweeping Attack Swing the weapon quickly and in an arc, to hit multiple opponents at once
Trip Attack Spend an superiority die for an attack which deals 1d8 more damage to the target and may push them back up to 15 ft.

Eldritch Knigh

Eldritch Knight Fighters combine magic and their punching.

You get 2 slots of level 1 spells per rest when you become Eldritch Knight. Starting out, you know two Cantrips as well as two Spells.

Bone Chill Use 1d8 necrotic damage to prevent the target from being able to heal until your turn next. Undead suffer from Disadvantage when making attack rolls.
Fire Bolt Hurl an ember of fire to deal 1d10 damage
Poison spray Project a puff noxious gases (CON Save).
Ray of Frost With 1d8 of Cold Damage, reduce the target’s speed by up to 10ft.
The Shocking Grasp Targets cannot react when they receive 1d8 of lightning damage.
Blade Ward Half damage for Bludgeoning and Piercing Attacks
Friends Achieve an Advantage in Charisma Tests against Non-Hostile Creatures
Dancing Lights Illuminate a 30ft radius
Light Aura of Light can be infused into an object
Mage Hand Create a hand which can interact and manipulate objects
Minor Illusion Make an optical illusion to attract nearby animals.
True Strike You can now gain an advantage on the next attack roll

Chromatic Orb Send a 3d8-damage sphere flying that could create a new surface upon impact.
Magic Missile Fire 3 magic darts each with 1d4 force damage
Mage Armor Make a target’s AC + DEX 13 to protect it from attack
Protecting yourself from Good and Evil Protect an ally by defending them against attacks from aberrations.
Shield Increase your AC with your reactions
Thunderwave You can release a wave of forceful thunder that will push all objects and creatures away for 2d8 damage from Thunder (CON save)
Witch Bolt You can deal 1d12 lightning damage to an enemy by connecting yourself with them. Each turn, you will also be able to add 1d12 more.
