Atari To Aquire System Shock Remake Developer Night Dive Studios

Atari announced it had reached an agreement with Night Dive Studios to buy the Night Shock remake team for approximately $10 million.

Night Dive Studios currently has Stephen Kick as its leader and Larry Superman as publisher. They have published more than 100 titles and are adding System Shock’s remake to their list of games on PC May 30. Atari claims that Night Dive Studios’ success is due to its proprietary KEX engine, which makes old games compatible with modern hardware. It’s clear that Night Dive Studios is the right choice for Atari, a retro-company, which just bought 12 retro games.

“In addition, Atari, SA also announced that it intends to proceed in the near-term with a €30 million bond issue convertible into new shares of Atari in order to meet with its capital needs in the context of the implementation of its new growth strategy and refinancing of its debt,” the press release reads.

Atari claims that the studio is a preferred partner of some of gaming’s biggest names and has helped them build a broad portfolio of titles.

Later, it added, “With the acquisition of Night Dive, Atari will enhance its large library and owned IP, be in able to leverage Night Dive’s proprietary technology and use Night Dive’s publishing capabilities for Atari’s retro-focused growth strategies.”

Wade Rosen, Atari Chairman and CEO, states that Night Dive has a track record in retro IP commercialization and its proven expertise. “I am confident that Atari will succeed with their combined talent and technology.”

Larry Kuperman, Night Dive Studios lead, and Stephen Kick write jointly that Night Dive Studios has a rich history with Atari. They share a passion for retro games, and are focused on creating high-quality, new, and remastered video games that accurately reflect the original IP. As we look to grow our business and expand our capabilities, we could think of no better long-term partner than Atari.”

It is anticipated that the acquisition will be finalized next month.
