After A 7-Month Shutdown, Dark Souls 3 Servers Are Online Again

In February, we reported the server shutdown of Dark Souls 3 after a dangerous hack – Remote Code Execution – rendered affected PCs inoperable. The hackers “executed random code on a remote device so they could gain control over the player’s computer”. The servers were back up seven months later.

Initial confirmations by the official Dark Souls Twitter handle indicated that servers would not be accessible after Elden Ring was released. The deactivation that followed was not something we could have anticipated. All three Dark Souls games were affected by the RCE hack. The multiplayer options for the third entry are now available. Hopefully, other franchise games will also be available.

This is the translation of a tweet by Software Support (see below):

We have concluded the security vulnerability analysis and countermeasures in the PC version “DARK SOULS 3”, so the game server has been restored and online services have resumed from today. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to users.

In addition, we are also working on the PC version of “DARK SOULS Ⅱ” and the PC version of “DARK SOULS REMASTERED,” and we will inform you as soon as they are restored. While we apologize for any inconvenience or inconvenience this may cause to all users, we are grateful for your cooperation.
