Local Legend 6, the Junkers F 13, Available Today in Microsoft Flight Simulator

Experience the world’s first all-metal transport plane today!

Celebrate its inaugural City Update in select German cities Microsoft Flight Simulator has released the Junkers F 13, the next aircraft in its “Local Legend” Series. Junkers, a German manufacturer of aircraft, released the F 13, a monoplane with a single engine and low-wing design. It took off on June 25, 1919. The F 13 was one of early aviation’s most innovative aircraft as the world’s first all-metal civilian transport plane, using Duralumin (an aluminum alloy), and boasted cutting-edge engineering implementations, notably in its wing design. There were more than 300 F 13s built during the 13 year production period. This well-built and reliable aircraft was stable and flew all over the globe, with a few flying into the 1950s.

F 13’s cantilever main wings were unique for their size. They didn’t require any external bracing. It has a 48 ft 7 inch span and straight leading edges. This aircraft features a conventional empennage, as well as an undercarriage standard that can easily be converted into floats.

Junkers employed a range of inline and radial engine types to power its F 13 over the course of production. There was the 6-cylinder in-line Mercedes D.IIIa 158-horsepower Mercedes D.IIIa and Junkers 606-horsepower Junkers. The BMW Va 6-cylinder in-line 355 horsepower radial engine. This model uses a supercharged 9-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-14B Wasp Junior radial piston engine that delivers 450 horsepower to a fixed-pitch, 2-blade propeller.

Junkers F13 has an impressive range of 870 miles and climbs at 470ft per minute. It also boasts a service ceiling of 16.700 feet above sealevel. You can cruise at 100 MPH and reach a speed of 106 mph.

With its simple and futuristic design, Junkers F 13 is a timeless masterpiece in aerospace engineering. Simulator version of the F 13 combines both the pleasures of the vintage aircraft from 1919 and the safety features of modern aircraft. From takeoff to landing, the F 13 performs just as well as it looks. This simulator version will be treasured by pilots.

You can choose from four types of Junkers F 13s: vintage with standard, terrestrial landing gear (wheels), vintage without floats or vintage with skis. There is also a replica version. Liveries include vintage, Xbox, and Aviator’s Club. You can try it today at the Microsoft Flight SimulatorIn-sim Marketplace for $19.99 And, keep watching for more “Local Legend” aircraft coming soon. You are the one calling!

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Game of the Year (GOTY) Standard Edition celebrates all the positive feedback, reviews and awards garnered, but it is also a “Thank You” to our fans – new and old – that have made Microsoft Flight Simulator such a phenomenon. Microsoft Flight Simulator Standard Game of the Year Edition features 25 detailed aircrafts and 38 custom-crafted airports.

This upgraded edition features five brand-new aircraft and eight newly handcrafted airports. Six new Discovery Flights are available. New tutorials have been added, as well as updates to the weather system.

Microsoft Flight Simulator now features five hand-crafted new aircraft:
• Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet: Our first military jet and a highly requested feature from the community. While the Top Gun Maverick film will come out next spring, we wanted to give simmers the chance to try their speed skills this holiday.
• VoloCity: We partnered with well-known German company Volocopter, which is working on an eVTOL called “VoloCity”, a vision for an urban air taxi. The Volocopter engineering group worked closely with us to create an exact replica of the prototype plane for the simulator. This aircraft is the first to be capable of precise landings. It is also a preview of what we will launch in 2022 in the simulator.
• Pilatus PC-6 Porter: This legendary short takeoff and landing (STOL) utility aircraft is a highly versatile plane from Switzerland and comes with several cockpits, cabins, and landing gear variations. This aircraft is the product of close cooperation with the manufacturer. The development effort by Hans Hartmann (developer) and Alexander Metzger (developer) resulted into a unique and enjoyable new aircraft that has exceptional capabilities in the simulator.
• CubCrafters NX Cub: Yakima-based CubCrafters recently introduced a nosewheel option for their flagship CC-19 XCub Aircraft, popularly called the NX Cub, which we are pleased to introduce to the flight sim audience to further enhance our bush flying and off airport options.
• Aviat Pitts Special S1S: One of our most popular planes gets a single-seat option with the release of this aircraft.

New Airports – We are adding eight handcrafted airports in Central Europe and the United States:
• Germany
o Leipzig/Halle Airport (EDDP)
o Allgäu Airport Memmingen (EDJA)
o Kassel Airport (EDVK)
•Switzerland
o Lugano Airport (LSZA)
o Zurich Airport (LSZH)
o Luzern-Beromunster Airport (LSZO)
•United States
o Patrick Space Force Base (KCOF)
o Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX)

Game of the Year releases information on 545 missing US airports.

New Missions-Based on the success of Discovery Flights we have added six additional locations to the series (Helsinki and Freiburg im Breisgau), Mecca, Monument Valleys, Singapore and Mount Cook).

New Tutorials – To further expand the onboarding experience, we are adding 14 new tutorials, introducing simmers to Bush flying (in an Icon A5) and IFR (in a Cessna 172).

New Features – We are also pleased to introduce several highly requested features by the community: an updated weather system, early access to DX12, and a dev mode replay system.

New Photogrammetry Cities – As part of our ongoing collaboration with Bing Maps, we are pleased to add a number of new photogrammetry cities: Helsinki (Finland), Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Brighton, Derby, Eastbourne, Newcastle, and Nottingham (UK) and Utrecht (Netherlands).

Microsoft Flight Simulator Standard Game of the Year Edition is available for free to owners of Xbox Series X|S. New users will find the GOTY Standard Edition a great way to start flight simulators. Get your friends together to enjoy the joys of flying. You are the only one who can see the sky!
