You can now buy a Steam Deck without a reservation

Valve’s Steam Deck has made a wonderful first impression. The company’s first foray into powerhouse handheld gaming is a pretty great way to play some of our favorite games, but it’s also come with one serious drawback: You couldn’t just Buy one. Because of some unavoidable setbacks, such as the pandemic coronavirus, customers were required to reserve a Deck in order to purchase one. The decks will be sent in waves due to the shortage. That restriction was removed by Valve, who announced that no reservations were required and that customers could purchase a Steam Deck from today.

A brief update was posted on Steam Deck’s official Twitter account. Valve claims that they now believe that Steam Deck production is sufficient to meet demand and that no reservation system will be necessary. The company acknowledges that there is always the chance of increased demand requiring the return to the reservation system, however, for now it seems unnecessary. Get to work! (Customers who are currently waiting on their reservation, Valve says, should expect an email “soon.”)

Valve announced the Steam Deck official dock is available now for $89. This dock includes three USB A 3.1 ports and DisplayPort video outputs, as well as a USB C power port and three USB A 3.0 ports. The Steam Deck has received a new update that will allow you to modify the interface. This will be useful for anyone who is interested in docking your Steam Decks.

Feel free to add this to your holiday/birthday lists with reckless abandon, because if you’re lucky (and know people who love — or even like — you enough) you might actually be able to have one before the year is out.
