XIII Remake is getting another remake with a September release date

Cult classic XIIIPlayMagic released a HD remake of the game in 2020. It attempted to make the game more compatible with modern devices, but failed miserably. Microids announced two years later that the game was handed to a new developer. XIII RemakeIt is a remake.

Microids announced in a press release that the remade game will be released on September 13th as an update free for all who own the original remake. Also, the delayed Nintendo Switch version is due to arrive at that time.

Microids also listed some of the upgrades that new developer Tower Five is delivering, saying that the studio has “reworked the entire game”:

Fine art in a refined style

A.I. enhanced

New HUD

Redesigned sound design

Switch at 30 fps

PS5/Xbox Series frame rate 60fps

Online gaming for 2 to 13 players

This remake shouldn’t come as a complete surprise, given XIII Remake’s extremely poor reception. Critics weren’t positive about the changes — it has a 33% average rating on Metacritic — and fans weren’t pleased either, giving it an “Overwhelmingly Negative” average review rating on Steam. Additionally, it was initially planned that the remake would be available on Nintendo Switch.

These were the methods that Microids appreciated. XIII RemakeIt was not up to expectations.

“We are fully aware and terribly sorry that the initial launch of XIII Remake on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC did not reach players’ expected quality standards,” Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard said in a statement. “A bit more than a year ago we took the decision to hire the studio Tower Five to finish the development of the game. Tower Five was a partner in the past with us, especially on the fantastic port of Agatha Christie: ABC MurdersNintendo Switch. It was our sincere desire to repair the game and give owners of the game. XIII Remake a free update paying the best possible tribute to the original game we all love.”

This is the original version XIII It was first released in 2003. The concept was loosely inspired from a graphic novel of the same name. Southend Interactive, Ubisoft Paris developed the game.
