Historical Offensives

Sixth Battle of the Isonzo includes dangerous river crossings and scaling Monte Sabotino. Urban combat takes place in the city of Gorizia. The mappers and artists of the WW1 Game Series did an amazing job recreating these maps based on particular battles from history – all the locations in the trailer, for example, are based on the real battle for Monte Cengio.

Each Offensive is an historical battle with only one to three maps, depending on the length of battle and how large it covered. Cengio is the first map in the Strafexpedition Offensive – a ‘punitive expedition’ intended by the Austro-Hungarians to punish the Italians for abandoning their pre-war agreement to join the Central Powers.

Extensive research was done to recreate key terrain features and make sure everything was accurately modelled – from the weapons and fortifications to the distinctive mountain vegetation and sharp rocks. The authenticity of the model is determined from many sources, including period photographs and maps, geographical data, museum visits and war diaries.

Class System

The third installment of the WW1 Game Series featured a new system for class selection. Isonzo players now choose between six classes:  Officer, Engineer, Rifleman, Assault, Sniper and Mountaineer.

Each class wears a unique uniform that is based upon historical units like the Austro–Hungarian sniper. They also have different weapons and other equipment.

The Officers can call divisional resources or provide guidance to the team. They can also use the trench whistle for a temporary reduction of the spawn timer or order players.

Engineers have the ability to construct barbed wire, put down sandbags for defence and advance on enemy lines.

This new look comes with extensive customization options. This new look is based on historical accuracy and accurately depicting the troops at the front.

After selecting a class type, you’ll be able to select a variant of the uniform that will go with it. You can choose to wear, for example, the uniform worn by Italian Assault members of elite Arditi-shock troops. On top of this, players can choose their moustache including the ‘Rennenkampf’ that our community voted their favourite WW1 moustache (!Faces, accessories and headgear.

DLC Packs allow you to purchase additional cosmetics based on a specific theme. The Alpine Units Pack, for example, contains white snow camouflage uniforms to be worn by the Italians and warm coats for Austro-Hungarian class members.

World War One expands to the mountains of the Italian Front – beautiful but deadly in equal measure. Isonzo, inspired by World War One’s two-year struggle to control the Isonzo River Valley and the Alps, elevates the WW1 Games Series both literally and metaphorically.

From the makers of Verdun and Tannenberg…

Participate in historic offensives, including the Sixth Battle of the Isonzo and the Strafexpedition. The fighting in an offensive will take place over vastly different areas, based on the battles themselves. Everything is recreated based on research and field trips, from sound effects and uniforms down to the houses, vineyards and trenches you’ll be fighting over.
You are now able to play the new offensive game mode, which puts you in the thick of important historical offensives at the Italian Front. Lead the charge across stunning Italian landscapes as you choose your path to victory – cut paths through barbed wire, flank your enemies by following mountain trails, or man a mortar to blast a way through. You can create a battlefield dynamic by placing sandbags on the ground, using ammo crates and trench periscopes.

Support your troops with an accurate, historically precise flare system. Flare guns are used to mark targets for artillery and biplane flightbys. Different colored flares may also be used as a guide. Once the big guns have softened up the enemy, finish the job at close quarters with an Arditi dagger or mountaineer’s pickaxe. Heavy machine guns, mortars, and mountain guns can be used to provide more fire support.

Select from six historical combat roles to build your loadout. You will have the option of a range of equipment, weapons and perks that each class has. These items allow you flexibility while still keeping in line with what soldiers may have used. You’ll be operating wire cutters, bandaging yourself and wounded teammates, and blowing the whistle to start an assault. Even minor wounds can quickly lead to death.

It’s not enough to be a skilled marksman in order to make an Isonzo soldier effective. Mastering the terrain is also key – the mountain can be a friend or foe. You can learn how to navigate to keep cover, surprise enemies and support allies.

Finally… watch out for the dreaded poison gas. You’ve never experienced WW1 action quite like this!

The key features of Isonzo include:
• MOUNTAIN WARFARE: Assaulting mountain fortifications, battling through ruined towns, and fording rivers are just a few of the challenges you’ll face as you fight your way through numerous enemy positions
• TACTICAL MULTIPLAYER FPS: Choose your role and loadout carefully to survive this high altitude combat – play a sniper to pick off the enemy engineers before they can cut your wire, use rifle grenades to clear enemy machine guns, and much more
• WORLD WAR ONE GAMEPLAY: Historical Offensive game mode based on real battles and focused on the unique challenges of Alpine warfare. You can fight with more than 30 WW1 weapons and poisonous gas attacks.
• BUILD FOR VICTORY: Place your own wire, sandbags, trench periscopes, and more! Whether you’re digging in or on the attack, shaping the battlefield to your advantage will be key to victory
• FACES OF WAR: Make every class your own by picking from a variety of historically class-appropriate uniforms, accessories and headgear. You can also choose your mustache among many period-accurate designs!
• AUTHENTIC WW1 ATMOSPHERE: Accuracy in everything from maps and weaponry to music and the uniforms – fight for the Kingdom of Italy or the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy
