Where Is Our Lost Ark Review?
Lost Ark launched for Western audiences today. Its three-day early entry event starts today. Amazon Games is the publisher that will bring Tripod Studios’ RPG and Smilegate’s RPG west. They have been gracious enough to allow some journalists early access to the private server so I can play the action-RPG for several weeks. Much of the game was in place when I played, although I was missing a very big aspect of it: the broader social component. Due to the low number of participants, I was the only one spending my time in Arkesia. For now, Lost Ark is my last assessment. Instead, here are some of my thoughts on this impressive free-to-play title after playing pre-release.
Lost Ark launches with five larger class archetypes (Warrior Martial Artist Gunner Mage and Mage), along 15 different sub-classes. Some are only available depending on whether the class is male or female. My time was split between the Berserker (my favorite) and the Sorceress. Both give a great first impression, decked out with a handful of skills that showcase the flavor of that class. Berserker: A hulking Warrior, the Berserker carries a large greatsword and goes into battle with everything. This class features a lot of up-close-and-personal attacks like a shoulder charge, leaping sword slashes, whirlwind spins, and a ground-exploding AOE.

My Sorceress is a subclass of the Mage, which uses elements like water, fire and ice to cleanse bloody piles from foes. A Mage doesn’t have a dodge roll, like the Warrior. The mage simply blinks just a little in the right direction to add a touch of class fantasy. It’s surprising how much fun it is to see a group of monsters or thieves explode into gory gibs after hours spent playing classes. Exploring new skills with both my characters is exciting. I’m eager to explore more classes once I get started at the next launch.
You can customize the skill sets available to classes. The most important aspect is how you configure your hotkey capabilities. They are chosen from a variety of skills and attacks that your character will acquire as they level up. You can also add skill points that you earn as your character levels ups to each skill. These skill points can be used to unlock perks that allow you modify that skill. You can add additional fire damage to an attack or change the mana cost. Cooldown times may be reduced. Each character can be made unique, and you can tailor moves to suit your style. It’s very flexible and fun to experiment with different builds and see how I can wreck havoc on my foes. You’ll be able to swap out different sets of weapons and armor as you find a variety of items, which adds another layer to your character building.
Movement and combat feel weighty and satisfying, even when I’m on the receiving end of a strong enemy attack and sent tumbling to the ground. It’s important to know where you should approach and be proactive in positioning. This is something that ARPGs don’t offer. To stay on your feet you will need to be able to avoid being attacked by stronger mobs. Knowing your tools is crucial. Pay attention to the signals of enemy mobs and make sure you use dodge rolls to avoid an AOE or other crippling blow. While my characters are extremely dangerous, it is enjoyable to know that my character can also be venerable.

Let’s take the cat outta bag. Lost Ark is an open-source game that you can play for free. It uses a microtransaction system. You can buy additional characters, mounts and cosmetics with real money. There are some items that have bonus attached to them, such as the 30-days Crystalline Aura which does not boost character stats, but lowers cooldowns for certain tasks and other abilities. The shop offers a small opportunity to increase the reward you receive on certain types of quests by purchasing pets. It pays to win. Not exactly. While I won’t likely spend my money on things that will speed up my progress it doesn’t matter if others do. Though it is important to note that these are not my only options,s are available in our MTX shop.
My interest in Lost Ark’s story has not kept me captivated. In fact, I have to travel across Arkesia to fight demonic forces to get an Ark. In my relatively brief time spent searching for this Ark, I have visited quaint tutorial cities, barren salt plains, and plague-ridden encampments. Some characters have side quests that can be used to build relationships. It is possible to build a relationship with your characters by performing tasks for them, giving them gifts or even playing their music. While I haven’t experienced any real benefits from this, it has helped me to build a relationship with locals.
Every map offers something different and is fun to explore and quest through. Finding hidden dungeons filled with treasure maps and elite beasts is my favourite part. This allows me to get more powerful loot. It’s the greatest challenge because you can matchmake with adventurers, and have multiple difficulty options. These challenges were too difficult for me to take on with a group of friends. I’m happy to report that even on a dungeon’s harder difficulty (that garner sweeter rewards) I could complete them on my own, though it does take more tact and skill. You’ll also find some of the most exciting moments in Lost Ark in dungeons. You may see the most beautiful environments in Lost Ark by enabling the camera to move around more due to events.

The Submerged Ruins is the most amazing multi-bossed underground dungeon I have ever seen. It felt almost like an actual adventure. To continue my journey, I needed to remove the water from the floors below as I sank into its deepest depths. Each encounter posed a significant challenge (I was on hard mode, so your mileage may vary), and the ratcheting tension had me on the edge of my seat until I defeated the final boss. This is how I expect more instanced encounters to work.
Lost Ark offers tons of collectibles and tons of boxes on every continent. Each area is filled with monsters, dungeons, bosses, and other challenges. You will find precious Mokoko Seeds and Giant’s Hearts in every corner. The rewards for completing the various lists or collections are cosmetics and health potions as well as cards. These cards can also be found through quests, or dropped by monsters in nature. You may have up to six cards to equip your character with stat boosts and elements resistance. As far as I know, these cards, which number in excess of 1000, can be shared across accounts, so collecting them is a group effort.
As collectibles go, Roster Level can be shared among characters. It increases Intelligence, Strength and Dexterity, as well as stats like Strength, Intelligence, and Strength. I feel fine having several alts in Lost Ark because of little things like this. Even though I need to go through the same story with each class, there are immediate advantages due to all the hard work that I’ve done. This is a small gesture to demonstrate that developers and the game have respect for my time. I also appreciate not needing to search the lands every single time I wish to reroll.
Once the servers go live, I can’t wait to discover what Lost Ark has in store for me and my friends. This MMO has a lot to offer, however I felt that playing in private was missing an important part. If you like action-heavy, dungeon crawlers such as Diablo, then I would recommend Lost Ark. This game is definitely satisfying my itch. There’s tons of content that you can access without spending any money. Lost Ark will launch on PC in its entirety on February 11, but you can play it starting right now for people who have purchased the $15 Founders Pack.
