What We Know About Saints Row Customization

Our recent cover story featured Volition, a Saints Row developer. It quickly became clear that Volition regards customization as an essential part of its core Saints Row experience. Since the original game’s release in 2006, players can customize their characters appearance. The customization options for your character have increased over time, and now you can choose what they look like.

“Customization is one of the definitive things that Saints Row is known for,” chief creative officer at Volition Jim Boone says. Not just characters but also the vehicles. In Saints Row IV we added weapon customization. It’s extremely woven into the DNA to the degree where I feel like if you don’t have customization, it’s hard to say that you’re a full Saints Row game.”

Volition has taken everything to the next level, giving players the power to tweak standard options like eye color and skin tone, add prosthetics to the main character, and even censor your protagonist’s nude body with things like emojis. “We’ve achieved dreams,” art director Frank Marquart says. “There were things that we really tried and we could not do on previous titles that we can now do in this game.”

While we don’t know precisely what elements of The Boss we’ll be able to customize when Saints Row launches next year, you’ll continue to unlock new options for your character, weapons, vehicles, and more. Brian Traficante is the creative director. He says, “A goal from day one was to be the King of Customization.” “We want to give our players all the things they’ve had in the past and more. That’s what we’ve done.”

Saints Row may reel in some of the more over-the-top elements of the franchise’s most recent entries, but it has taken the customization elements to new levels. The gender range is unlimited.

You can customize your Saints Row session by participating in cooperative play. Boone states that every co-op player will be exactly the way you made them in co-op sessions. Boone says that all customization options will be fully displayed.

To personalize your experience, other elements can be modified to enhance character customization. Your vehicles, weapons, and gang will become more personal as you go along. You can also customize your vehicles, weapons, and gang as you complete missions to expand the Saints Empire. Your church headquarters will be more attractive and have visual enhancements and cosmetic options.

Volition has much more information about customization. So we are eagerly awaiting to learn all we can about how Saints Row will launch on February 25, and we hope Volition is right. Find out more about Saints Row by visiting our exclusive coverage hub via the banner below.
