Harry Potter trivia game show set at Hogwarts debuts in November

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of HousesThis feels like it’s from 2012. This four-night event, which is timed to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of the opening movie Potter, features a quiz show centered on Harry Potter trivia. The contestants are divided into Houses. You can win a shopping spree of $1,000 at Harry Potter New York, as well as tickets. Harry Potter and Cursed Child, a trip to Harry Potter: The Exhibition, a three-day three-night trip to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando, and an advance screening of next April’s The Secret of Dumbledore: Amazing BeastsYou can find out more. And that’s not all — those at home can join in with a companion digital event on the official Wizarding World website, with three trivia challenges debuting every Friday from Nov. 26 to Dec. 10.
If this show had come out at the height of Pottermania — right on the heels of the last movie, when the fandom was hungry for Potter content — it would’ve exploded. As it stands, seeing someone go “I’m pretty sure I’m as Gryffindor as you get” in 2021 is a bit of a time warp. That’s not even taking into account the contention surrounding Harry Potter in the wake of J.K. Rowling’s controversial comments on the trans community.
Hosted by award-winning actress Helen Mirren — who, for the record, has never appeared in a Harry Potter movie — Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses Gryffindor takes on Hufflepuff in the first round, which starts in November. The next round pits Slytherin against Ravenclaw, which if you ask me the seeding seems messed up because a trivia match between ambitious Slytherins and smart-ass Ravenclaws would’ve made for a more interesting second round, but I digress.
TBS will air the show’s premiere episode on November 28th at 8:08 pm. New episodes are added every Sunday. It will be available on HBO Max in the first half of next year.
