Water Temple walkthrough in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The following are some of the ways to get in touch with us Tears of the Kingdom – The Legend of ZeldaYour journey will end at Sidon Water TempleAfter Wellspring Island, you will be able to access.

After you launch yourself up from Wellspring Island using the waterfall, you’ll be greeted with a fairly small sky island, called the Water Temple. Link and Sidon will talk a bit and you’ll be able to interact with the altar directly in front, unlocking the Water Temple as a fast travel location.

It’s a small temple, but it has some challenging puzzles and a boss who is not to be taken lightly. Here’s how to solve the Water Temple Before you start, here are some things that will help.

You need to be aware of the following before you begin your Water Temple

After you unlock the Water Temple, you are free to go anywhere you want to grab food, materials, or anything else you need without worrying about traversing a long island. Food, splash fruits, and arrows are recommended.

You’ll be tasked with opening up four more water valves to wash away the sludge. The valves are listed below in order of left to right. However, you don’t have to follow this order.

Sidon will also rejoin you, so you’ll need to interact with him to use his water abilities, like how you did during the Sludge Like fight.

The Water Temple is easily accessible

To reach the Water Temple, you’ll first need to complete the “Sidon of the Zora” quest from Zora’s Domain. To unclog the Ancient Zora Waterworks, you must first travel through them. Then travel to Wellspring Island.

Water Temple chests

  • Zora Shield
  • Large zonaite
  • Strong zonaite longsword
  • 5 Arrows
  • Opal

Open the first valve of the Water Temple

There’s only one visible way to head up the upper platforms right off the bat, so head to the southwest and jump up the platforms that create a somewhat broken bridge. Link will be able glide up and use the low-gravity islands to his advantage.

You will find three structures waiting there for you. Splash fruit arrows can be used to remove mud from a waterfall that is floating around in the southern sky. Grab a Zora Shield by swimming up the waterfall.

Link stands in a decorative stone landing, and across from him, a stone pillar with a waterfall blocked by mud. A superimposed arrow points to the waterfall, indicating that’s what Link must clean off.

A water bubble maker will be aimed at the upper platforms, but it’ll be covered in mud. Use Sidon’s trusty water ability to clean it off.

Sidon, a shark-man hybrid, stands next to a blue stone platform with a water spout covered in thick mud. Players must clean the mud to make an water bubble appear from the spout.

Ultrahand is used to grab the glowing ball and send it upwards to the next platform. You can jump in a bubble and meet it.

Ultrahand is used to position the ball above the glowing hole. It won’t go in, but it’ll float nicely over it.

Use Ultrahand to attach the top of your floodgate. Ultrahand will raise the floodgate by activating it with a simple hit on the activated platform. This will allow the water to drain, which in turn allows the ball into the hole. The cage will be opened, giving you the opportunity to access the valve.

Link uses his Ultrahand power on a tall wooden gate, covering it in a green, glowing light.

Use Sidon’s water ability to hit the valve, turning it on. Head back down to the main area of the Water Temple once you’re finished.

Open the second valve of the Water Temple

Next valve can be found on the lower level of Water Temple. Follow this route to go under the temple.

Use Sidon’s water shield ability to run through the flames blocking the entryway. Once you’re inside, you’ll need to transport a glowing ball from one side of a spike pit to the entrance. To move the glowing ball, use Ultrahand and the floating platforms. Ultrahand can be used to attach the ball directly to the platform to better keep track of it.

Keep in mind that the platforms must be hit (with an arrow or weapon) to make them float. They must be hit with a weapon, arrow or other object to make them float.

To get large zoneites, fire an arrow with your chest at the platform that is floating in the air.

A camera below Link points to the ceiling, where some green, glowing symbols indicate where he can cast his Ascend power to fly through the ceiling.

As you reach the wall you have two options: either you use Ascend to quickly climb back up using the platform, or use Ascend to use a floating surface.

Ultrahand can be used to fix the ball on the center of a platform that is floating, then hit it and rotate it. Finally, insert the ball by using the Ultrahand.

Link uses Ultrahand to surround a small floating platform in a glowing, green aura. A hemisphere line bisecting the platform indicates how the player can rotate it to manipulate the platform and the ball sitting on top.

Sidon can join you by pressing down on the rectangular switch near the door.

Link lifts a small platform above a fiery floor, and surrounded by light from his Ultrahand ability.

Use Sidon’s ability to hit the now-open water wheel and return to the main area of the Water Temple.

Open the third valve of the Water Temple

Take out any chuchus and construct that may appear in the Water Temple’s central area.

Shoot an arrow up with a fruit splash at the clogged falls to the north-east:

Link stands before a large stone pillar in the middle of a stone courtyard. At the top of the pillar, mud blocks a waterway a waterfall should be coming from.

Swim up the waterfall and take out the fire-like enemy you’ll see on the right. It drops a chest that contains a powerful zonaite-colored longsword. For now, ignore that area and continue on this path:

Link runs across an open area towards a pile of mud with a rock and spout sticking out of it. In the distance, a water bubble pushes a platform upward.

Use Sidon’s water ability on the mud pile in the photo above to clean off a chest with five arrows inside.

Recall can be used on a water balloon to get you to the upper platforms.

You can use Ultrahand to fix the square pieces to the wheels. Spin the waterwheel to give it enough momentum so it will keep on spinning.

A large waterfall divides the screen, and Link uses his Ultrahand ability to position a large waterwheel with lengthened spokes to the right of it.

Ultrahand can be used to hold the water bubble and then connect two lines.

A large sphere of water floats above a red circle, and it glows green from the light of Link’s Ultrahand ability. Electrical cables just in from its left and right side.

Use Sidon’s ability to activate the water wheel and jump back down to where you fought the fire like enemy.

Open the fourth water faucet

Jump through the ground where there used to be a fire. You will find constructs, chuchus, and other enemies waiting up there.

Use the bubbles of water to remove the sludge from the rotating structure after removing them.

You can use the materials around you to create a high platform that will be near the rotating object. Then, you can glide away and use your bow to aim for the switch in the spinning structure. You will be able to easily hit the switch as time slows down.

Opal can be found in the chest on the north side of the pool.

The water wheel will be accessible once you have hit the switch. You know the drill: use Sidon’s ability to hit the wheel and turn on the last valve.

Mucktorok boss the Water Temple?

When you reach the central part of the Temple, you will be able to interact with an altar that will remove the mud. A disgusting little creature, a Mucktorok, will jump out of the mud and you’ll need to take it out to actually stop the mud.

A purple squidlike monster with a bulbous head and a yellow, protruding eyeball on either side, along with a month with pointed teeth and scales. Text reads “Scourge of the Water Temple — Mucktorok”

Image: Nintendo EPD/Nintendo via Polygon

The Mucktorok’s fight patterns aren’t too hectic. It takes on a muddy shark form for most of the fight, which you’ll need to clean away using Sidon’s water ability. In its shark form, it’ll fire off several types of attacks that involve beams and waves that are low to the floor. You can easily jump over these two attacks because the gravity is low.

Once it’s clean of mud, get a few hits in and it’ll start running away. If you hit it as it’s running, it’ll get temporarily stunned. It’s best to lock on and fire arrows at the enemy to temporarily stun them. Continue these steps up until you reach around 50% health.

It is the root cause of all problems. The halfway point, as it’ll start spitting mud everywhere. Admittedly, it was spitting out mud faster than we could keep up with cleaning it using Sidon’s ability, which is why we recommended bringing in extra splash fruit.

You can clean up excess mud with Sidon’s abilities and splash fruit — in fact, you should — as too much mud will make it hard to navigate around the arena.

When you remove the shark’s muddy exterior, Mucktorok starts jumping between mud pools, making him harder to shoot with your arrows.

The Mucktorok purple squid creature retreats in the air from Link, who has his bow raised to fire an arrow at it. The fight takes place on an open stone platform beneath a night sky, and the Mucktorork has 1⁄3 of its health.

Image: Nintendo EPD/Nintendo via Polygon

After a few attempts, the Mucktorok died. We used keese-eyes on our arrows. This allowed our arrows home in when Mucktorok was no longer in its shark form. This process was repeated several times until the Mucktorok finally died.

After you beat the boss, a Heart Container will fall from the heavens and you can finish up the “Sidon of the Zora” quest line. Well done!

When ready, it’s time to continue the Regional Phenomena quest — assuming you have other locations yet to complete.
