Warren Spector Says OtherSide Entertainment Hasn’t Worked On System Shock 3 In Three Years

System Shock 3’s development history is quite troubled, as documented in Part 3 Game Informer’sGames Stuck in Development Hell is a feature that shows how the game seems to have been further pushed into development hell.

We have a brand new interview with VentureBeatWarren Spector of Deux Ex made what appears to be his final remarks regarding System Shock 3 – especially since OtherSide Entertainment is currently working on an IP. When asked if OtherSide Entertainment’s work on the threequel had come to an end, Spector said there’s not much more clarification he can give at this point.

“We released a statement last year,” Spector told VentureBeat. “There’s not much more to say at this point. Tencent plans to move the franchise ahead. It’ll be up to them to say what they want to say. There’s not much clarification I can give you.”

Spector continued, stating that OtherSide Entertainment worked on System Shock 3 in 2018 and 2019 but that it hasn’t worked on the threequel since then. After reaching 17 employees for System Shock 3, the studio had to reduce its workforce.

Here’s the most recent update on System Shock 3. It was spun up in 2015, when Nightdive Studios bought Star Insurance’s rights to it. After Nightdive Studios granted permission, OtherSide Entertainment then announced it would be developing System Shock 3 later in 2015.

After two years, Starbreeze Studios didn’t say a thing. In March 2017, Starbreeze Studios revealed that OtherSide Entertainment had agreed to publish System Shock 3 on PC. After two more years, we received a teaser featuring SHODAN, the evil AI. Since then, System Shock 3’s website has been transferred to gaming giant Tencent Holdings, as reported by Video Games Chronicle

As for the future of System Shock 3, who knows when we’ll hear about it again. It appears to remain in the middle of development hell for now. Read more Game Informer’sThree-part article about games trapped in hell development: Part 1 and Part 2.
