Warhammer 40K: Leviathan sold out online, customers told to buy local
Warhammer 40,000 : LeviathanThe introductory boxed release of the tenth edition, an iconic miniature tabletop wargame, was sold out over the weekend. The $250 72-piece set is now only available locally.
Games Workshop announced publicly that they were prepared for a tsunami of fans at this launch, their biggest product ever. The company even implemented a queueing-system and restricted the amount of copies available at a time to discourage scalpers. But apparently that wasn’t enough to let every consumer make a pre-order during the stated two-week window. Online availability in the United States dried up the same day orders went live — June 10 — with European availability ending sometime later. A banner ad on the company’s website now directs visitors to a store locator.
Although some quantities of units are available through Games Workshop shops and independent retailers the launch feels like it is a re-run of the 9th edition. Warhammer 40,000A box set titled “2020” will be released in 2020. A boxed set titled Warhammer 40,000: IndomitusThe online version quickly sold-out and the retail versions were limited. Games Workshop was forced to act in an unprecedented way to guarantee that every person who wanted to own a set got one.
