Update: FromSoftware Details Official Elden Ring Resolution And Performance Priority Modes

Last update, 11.08.21

FromSoftware revealed details and specifications for the forthcoming RPG after speculation about a Quality or Performance mode, as outlined in an Elden Ring purchase list.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will be identical – both have a Resolution mode that prioritizes a 4K resolution with a 30 FPS lock, and a Performance mode that will prioritize 60 FPS gameplay with a dynamic resolution that adjusts while playing to ensure the 60 FPS frame rate remains stable. HDR will also be supported by both new-generation consoles.

Xbox Series S supports resolutions of up to 1440p, and 60FPS framesrate (via Performance mode). HDR is also supported, however it will not include Raytracing.

The PlayStation 4 Pro has an 1800p resolution and a frame rate of 30 frames per second. It also supports HDR. HDR is not supported on the standard PlayStation 4, so it’s best to expect it elsewhere. However, you can still expect 1080p resolution with 30 frames per second.

Xbox One X consoles will support up to 4K resolutions, HDR, and a 30 FPS framerate. Xbox One consoles can support resolutions up to Elden Ring 900p, and 30FPS frame rates. HDR is not available.

The old Xbox and PlayStation Elden Rings saves can both be transferred to new-gen consoles. PS5 saves are not transferable to another PS4, but Xbox Series S saves can.

The maximum resolution on a PC is 4K, and the max frame rate for PC is 60 frames per second.

Here’s the original story…

Original Story, 11.05.21

Elden Ring will have a Performance Mode and a Graphics Mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, according to the Collector’s Edition listing on GameStop.

First discovery by PushSquare, if you go to the Collector’s Edition listing for Elden Ring on either PS5Or Xbox Series X, you can find all kinds of details about FromSoftware’s upcoming open-world RPG. Under the “Enhanced Experience” section, GameStop’s listing says Elden Ring will have two gameplay modes.

“Using the power of [the]The new console generation [Xbox Series X/S and PS5] will allow players to personalize their experience by choosing between Graphic Mode to enhance the game’s visuals (up to 4K) or Performance Mode for a higher frame rate (up to 60 FPS),” the GameStop listing reads.

If this is true, it would line up with what we’ve seen in other cross-generation titles. Most games released on previous-gen and new-gen consoles have some type of graphics or quality mode. This mode focuses on resolution, while a performance mode focuses on high frame rates. These two modes of gameplay would be a good fit for Elden Ring.

FromSoftware did not announce such an announcement. The GameStop listing, however, is the only evidence that Elden Ring will feature two modes. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about what’s in store for Elden Ring’s gameplay on new-gen consoles soon. Elden Ring is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S (PS4), Xbox One and PC on February 25th.
