Update: Dark Souls PC Servers To Remain Offline Until After The Launch Of Elden Ring

Update, 2/9/22:
From Software revealed today that online servers hosting Dark Souls on PC will not be accessible until Elden Ring is launched.
From Software announced last month that it had discovered a PC vulnerability in Dark Souls that allowed someone to gain control over your PC. That obviously presents a whole host of problems and From Software responded by taking the PC Dark Souls games – so Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 – offline. While you can play the game alone, the online elements were removed and From Software announced that the servers would remain offline for the Elden Ring release later this month.
Online services for Dark Souls on PC won’t resume after Elden Ring is released due to the amount of time it takes to create testing environments. These services will be restored as quickly as possible. We’ll continue doing everything in our power to make it happen. Once the time frame for online services is established, we will announce it. Keep checking the Dark Souls social media channels to receive updates. We would like to thank you once more for being a passionate community.

Dark Souls 3 might not have garnered the same popularity totals as its two predecessors or the GOTY spin-off(s) that followed. Nevertheless, it showcases the same level of epic storytelling and mechanical depth and polish that FromSoftware is widely known for. Players may be unable to control their PCs due to a potentially dangerous vulnerability. As of right now, the Dark Souls 3 servers are offline as the dev team works to maintain multiplayer security.
To allow team members to examine recent online service issues, PvP servers of Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls 2 have been temporarily disabled.
PtDE Servers will soon join them.We regret this inconvenience.

Based on NMEYesterday, January 23, Dark Souls posted an announcement on Twitter (see above), describing the situation and what steps are being taken. It reads:
To allow team members to examine recent online service issues reports, “PvP servers Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls 2 have been temporarily disabled. They will soon be joined by servers for Dark Souls: PtDE. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The tweet that followed said the problem was completely absent from PlayStation servers. So Xbox and PlayStation owners don’t have to be concerned and are spared the shutdown. NME would go on to state that the exploit, otherwise known as the Remote Code Execution (RCE) hack, allows attackers to “execute arbitrary code on a remote device, meaning they can take control of a player’s PC.” Since only a very small number of people know the hack, the chance of getting affected seems low. PC gamers are at risk when they use Dark Souls 3 multiplayer features, therefore the deactivation of PvP seemed appropriate.
Did you ever come across RCE Hack in any of your playthroughs? Are Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls 3 your favourite entry? Please share your thoughts and experiences below.
