Update: Bayonetta Prequel Game Coming March 2023

Update, 12/9/2022:

An “unique playable teaser” to help you get started. Bayonetta Origins – Cereza and The Lost Demon are now available within Bayonetta 3 Nintendo says, “Players who purchased the Old Picture Book at Rodin’s shop, The Gates of Hell, using in-game currency and unlocked it with three keys will be able to access the teaser.”

Original Story 12/8/2022

Following Bayonetta 3’s October release, Platinum Games, Nintendo, and Nintendo today announced Bayonetta Origins, Cereza, and the Lost Demon.

Origins takes a step away from series’ classic gameplay and visual style. Origins uses cel-shaded art and an isometric angle for its camera angles. It was hard to get too good a grasp on the gameplay from the trailer, though it does look akin to the Viola chapters from Bayonetta 3 – where the player character’s combat actions are deemphasized over summons instead. Cheshire is the primary summon, as Cheshire was Viola’s summon only in Bayonetta 3! It will be time to find out if Origins fare better.

Narratively, you play as a young Bayonetta – or Cereza, as is her actual name. Below is a trailer that gives you an idea of the plot and shows the game in action.

Bayonetta Origins, Cereza and The Lost Demon will release on Nintendo Switch in March 2023.
