Upcoming PUBG patch adds mortar, smoke grenade launcher, and more

PlayerUnknown’s BattlegroundsOn Nov. 3, for PC, and Nov. 11, for consoles, there will be an enormous update. This update is already available at the PUBG Use the test server.

Although patch 14.2 contains only a handful of new features to battle royale, they should have a significant impact on players who are dedicated. The new Mortar weapon — only available on the new Taego map — is able to blow enemy squads up at extreme ranges. To use the Mortar weapon effectively, however, teams must calculate its range and practice accuracy.

The M79 Smoke Grenade Launcher, unlike the Mortar can be placed on any map and provides a support weapon to players. Like its name, the M79 Smoke Grenade Launcher can cover all sides with smoke and give tactical advantages.

Finally, players won’t immediately die if they’re downed in water anymore. Downed players swim half as fast as normal. Krafton explained the context of this, saying that it was dangerous for players to cross water without having the ability to swim safely back. Boats can still be dangerous due to their slow swimming speed. PUBGBut, players with enhanced mobility may be more inclined to get their feet wet.

Other small improvements include chickens, custom maps, changes to ranked and esports modes, as well as additions to arcade mode. The full patch notes can be found on the PUBG Site.
