Ubisoft Indefinitely Delays XDefiant Preseason Launch

Ubisoft’s first-person Tom Clancy’s XDefiant was revealed in 2021. It is a “slow-paced shooter with rapid-fire firefights and punk-rock mosh pits”. The game is a free shooter with factions that come from Ubisoft’s various properties like Splinter Cell. Watch Dogs. The Division. and Far Cry. Our hands-on experience with XDefiant was positive. The game’s open beta was held in June and it had been planned to be released in summer. But now Ubisoft San Francisco is delaying its launch until the preseason. 

This was announced on Twitter by the team yesterday. It revealed that while the Public Test Session held recently had been successful, there were some issues with the experience of the game which the team wants to resolve before preseason. As such, the preseason launch has been delayed to a later unspecified date. 

Ubisoft has released a full statement regarding the XDefiant launch delay. 

Thank you for participating in the recent Public Test Session. We appreciate your continued support as we continue to build XDefiant. This PTS showed your support for the fast-paced gameplay, unique maps, goal-driven mode, and legendary Faction roster. 

It also revealed some inconsistent aspects of the gameplay that need to be addressed before we launch our Preseason. We’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone the Preseason for XDefiant. 

“The team is continuing to work on these issues. They will test them and make sure that they are resolved. We want to deliver the best in class arcade shooter. As more details about Preseason testing and Preseason become available, we will update you. 

“Thanks again for your support – we’re working hard to make something really special and we couldn’t do it without you.” 

Ubisoft has not specified when the Preseason Launch will take place, so this is an indefinite delay.
