Ubisoft delays Skull & Bones (again) to 2023

Skull & Bones, Ubisoft Singapore’s ambitious but beleaguered open-world pirate adventure, is delayed again. It will launch on March 9, 2023, according to the publisher.

Ubisoft announced that Wednesday was a delay in their announcement. Skull & BonesHad been scheduled for a launch on Nov. 8, Amazon Luna, Google Stadia and PlayStation 5. Windows PC and Xbox Series X.

“While the game development is finished at this stage, the extra time will be used to further polish and balance the experience using players’ feedback from our Technical tests and Insider Program which happened over the past two weeks,” Ubisoft said in a statement. “This is the right decision both for our players and for the long-term success of the game as March 9, 2023 provides for a suitable release window for this very unique new brand.”

Skull & Bones was announced at E3 2017, but development on it may be traced back to 2013’s pirate-themed Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. It was originally scheduled for a launch in late 2018, but it has been delayed 4 times over the last four years.

Ubisoft Singapore appeared to be on the right track despite its lengthy project, which Kotaku stated in 2021, had cost over $120 million. This summer, Ubisoft Singapore hosted a livestream of a single-hour gameplay demo and was confirmed as happening Nov. 8. Skull & Bones’ launch date.

The Indian Ocean was platted in 17th-century India on a chart that stretched from Malaysia’s east coast to Africa. Skull and Bones Players will play the pirate captain, who is trying to establish a reputation. Starting with a tiny ship and a spear, they’ll quickly work their way up to commanding larger vessels and crews, managing the ongoing threat of mutiny and finding enough food and plunder to placate everyone.
