TikTokers are exploiting a dumb AI filter to generate giant anime boobs

TikTok has a lot of filter options that can make it a bit more chaotic. Often they’ll take off and inspire a massive trend. The AI Manga filter is currently being used to create a cartoon-like portrait. But there’s a twist: Users are holding bowls, cups — and sometimes even scrunching pillows in front of their chest — to “trick” the AI into generating a portrait with immense, powerful cleavage. And it’s working.

You can use household items in a round shape, and it is also possible. This includes non-traditional products like toilet paper rolls. This audio clip has been downloaded more than 8.3 millions times.

It’s unsurprising that it’s this easy to trick the filter. If you’ve been following reports about artificial intelligence-generated art, you know it has a penchant for sexualizing women. That is, some of the apps using AI models like Stable Diffusion — Lensa AI’s magic avatars, for example — have generated NSFW images and nudes for people asking for fantastical avatars, even if they don’t want NSFW images of themselves.

AI art generators DALLE and Stable Diffusion, for example, have been trained from internet images. This means that these models reflect the biases of society. This AI TikTok filter is sexualizing women.

It’s not limited to cleavage. Users have also added an extra bump to their rump. In my favorite version, someone pulled a 4-paneled waffle across their stomach. The AI then generated an avatar with washboard abs.

You will find it equally amusing to see people trying to fool the filter only to have unintended consequences.

This trick was so easy to see TikTokers doing it, that I tried it out myself. Two ballcaps were held up in front of me, the round ends extending over my chest. It produced a voluptuous, fleshy valley. This was easy to do and only took two attempts. It was truly a full cup.
