The Witcher season 3 trailer kicks off Henry Cavill’s goodbye to Geralt

The Witcher Season 3 is fast approaching, but even after all of the anticipation, it is bittersweet. Henry Cavill is about to leave the show.

But as we see in the season 3 trailer which debuted at Summer Game Fest’s kickoff livestream, life is far from rosy for Geralt, Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra).

Geralt is in full dad warrior mode, swearing that he “won’t abandon Ciri” as he fends off all kinds of dangerous adversaries, seemingly after the princess of Cintra. The Wild Hunt, the fire mage and big rolling monsters are all there. It’s no surprise that even Geralt is saying he understands “real fear” for the first time. Things have gotten so dire that he’s not just pulling out his sword a few times, he’s putting on a nice shirt. The pattern is!

The plot of Season 3 is loosely based on the storyline of The Time of CondemnationSecond novel of the Witcher books. Geralt, Yen and Ciri have joined forces in Season 3 to help Ciri harness her magical powers. Meanwhile, the rest of world is searching for Ciri as it tries to gain advantage from her. The kingdoms of Redania, Nilfgaard and Elves are all fighting to be the dominant force on the Continent. Meanwhile, the fire mage is running around causing trouble for Geralt — and possibly working for a nefarious mage who’s more powerful than anyone he’s encountered so far.

The full season will be available in a few weeks: The WitcherSeason 3 will now be split into two halves, the first of which is five episodes and airs on June 29, 2019. On July 27th, the second half of season 3 will be released with three more episodes.
