The Super Mario Bros. Movie Is A Record-Breaking Box Office Success
Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. Movie has become a staggering box office success since its premiere last week. The animated adaptation of Nintendo’s flagship franchise has emerged from its first weekend as the best opening animated film of all time, achieving several other records along the way.
Based on The Hollywood ReporterThe film made $375 million in the first five days. Frozen 2 The film was the world’s top-opening animated film. The domestic gross was $206 millions, and $146million of that came in the last weekend. This is despite the fact the film’s premiere was on Wednesday. It has grossed over $173million overseas.
Additionally, Super Mario Bros. MovieThis is the best opening film in 2023 (beating) Quantumania: Ant-Man & the Wasp), has become Illumination’s most successful opening, and has the best opening of any video game film adaptation (surpassing Sonic the Hedgehog 2, debut). This film has also had the largest five-day debut ever. A record that was previously held by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. If all of that wasn’t enough, the film also has the biggest IMAX opening weekend of all time at $21.6 million globally.
