The Quarry And Until Dawn Developer, Supermassive Games, Acquired By Nordisk Games

Supermassive Games has a reputation for creating interactive horror stories, like 2015’s Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology and more recently The Quarry. Today, EurogamerIt was reported that Nordisk Games, a Danish company acquired the studio.

Nordisk Games, which already owns Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios and MercurySteam, the team behind Metroid Dread, acquired a 30% stake in Supermassive in March 2021. Pete Samuels, Supermassive’s CEO at the time stated:

“We are delighted to have Nordisk Games alongside Supermassive for what we are sure will be very exciting times ahead…Our companies share a passion for delivering beautiful games with stories that emotionally engage, and we are very much looking forward to working closely with them and their colleagues at Nordisk Film and Egmont.”

Samuels today released another statement regarding the acquisition of all studios, which was as exciting and exhilarating than his excitement one year ago.

Nordisk Games was able to make a decision quickly about increasing their investments after having such positive experiences over the last year. The growth strategy we have for Supermassive Games is exciting and aggressive. Nordisk Games ownership enhances this. “I’m excited to see where this partnership and the continued access of the Nordisk Games expertise will lead us.”

The Quarry was enjoyable. The summer camp slasher received an 8 out 10 rating. The final review stated that “Once you get into the frenetic running in the woods, the dark mysteries, thrill of keeping humans alive, and the suspense of the ending are strong hooks that will keep your attention until the credits roll.” Supermassive is currently working on The Devil in Me as the final season of The Dark Pictures Anthology. You can see the trailer starring Jessie Buckley.
