The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition Is Much More Than Just a Visual Upgrade

Where? The Outer WorldsObsidian Entertainment was delighted to have this RPG released to such a great reception. Now that we’ve announced The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition, an upgrade for the new generation of hardware, we thought we’d go over some of the cool changes we are bringing in and the thought process behind it. If you aren’t familiar with the game, here’s a quick recap:

You are lost in transit on a colonist vessel bound for the edge, and you wake up decades later than your scheduled date to discover that there is a conspiracy to end the colony. Discover the many planets and places of Halcyon including the Gorgon Asteroid, and Eridanos’ charming distillery. The story will unfold as you meet different factions that vie for your power.

More than 5,000,000 lucky spacers, including many who have been able to travel the stars of Halcyon since its launch, have participated in the power struggle that has rocked the colony. All was well. But then, just over a year later, the Xbox Series X and S arrived in people’s living rooms, pushing the boundaries of console gaming ever further. The game was actually released between the two generations of consoles. When opportunity insists on striking, it’s best to use a Prismatic Hammer.

The new console generation allows you to live on

We were excited to announce the new console generation. The Outer WorldsSpacers in the future will still be able enjoy this spacer-friendly RPG. The Board was proud to have this essential RPG continue to live on as new titles come out. We also wanted it to not age prematurely, so we made sure to keep the game current and modern for new spacers to Halcyon. There was much room to improve on the technical abilities of both Xbox Series X/S. The game’s appearance is only one aspect of its appeal. Feels.

This meant brushing up what were already some of the strengths of the core game: an engrossing storyline influenced by the in-game choices you make, quirky yet endearing companions – each with unique abilities and their own missions for you to help them complete – a freely diversified combat system yielding high-intensity encounters with your enemies, and much more…

The final version of The Outer Worlds is on its way

So we grabbed our spacer’s dev kits and got to work. The visual enhancements included volumetric lighting and better particle physics. We also worked on improving the environment’s visual storytelling and asset density.

However, we tried to improve the gameplay experience. We made the AIs for combat and companions more intelligent, enhanced the open-world feeling through greater depth, updated the weather and revised the visuals. To improve the experience, animations and character models were also reworked. Finally, we thought this Spacer’s Choice Edition would make even more sense if it included the base game’s DLC expansions, Gorgon is in perilAnd Eridanos MurdersWe did it! The experience has never been more rich! To give players more options to construct their characters using the seven skills branches, we have increased the level cap from 99 to 99.
