Horizon Forbidden West’s new setting is teeming with exotic, dangerous, and never-before-seen machines. Already, we have discussed the Slitherfang and Guerrilla revealed some details about previously-unseen robotic creatures. But, for those who haven’t kept track of the game’s fearsome new faces, here’s a handy round-up of the new machines that have been revealed thus far.

Rollerback

The rollerback looks like giant armoured armadillos, and they love to roll. Their massive bodies are folded into balls and then hurled at targets using flames from the scale-like armor. Also, we’ve seen them use their scales for projectiles. Then they magnetically retrieve them. Additionally, Rollerbacks are even capable of launching themselves airborne. You can find many components under this machine that you could target in order to disable it or slow it down enough to take apart.

Burrower

Guerrilla refers to Burrowers as a fundamental enemy type and the next generation of the Watchers. Burrowers look like an otter and weasel and are agile. They also function as recon machines that use their high-pitched sounds to alert and stun allies. Burrowers, akin to their animals, are skilled swimmers.

Bristleback

Bristlebacks are boar-like and travel with herds. They use their tusks as tools to find buried resources. This is their way of grazing. Bristlebacks are peaceful and beautiful to behold from far. The Bristleback will attack if you tick it off. It will combine its scraps with elements to make a devastating ranged assault. You don’t want to be on the wrong end of those tusks, either.

Clamberjaw

Clamberjaws look and behave like baboons. Thus, they’re as acrobatic as they are aggressive. Clamberjaws are capable of scaling walls as well as a variety of debilitating attacks. It doesn’t help that they often travel in groups, meaning players will need to keep their eyes on the ground and in the trees when dealing with them.

Tremortusk

Tremortusk the mammoth like boss monster is among those that impressed players in Horizon Forbidden West’s first release. The titan-like fortress is equipped with a variety of heavy weapons, including cannons as well as armor that resists a lot. Tremortusks rival Zero Dawn’s most powerful machines, the Thunderjaw and Stormbird, making it especially worrisome that the human Regalla faction has captured and weaponized them for their own use.

Clawstrider

Clawstriders were among the first of Forbidden West’s new machines, though they briefly appeared in the Horizon comic. They travel in groups and are just as terrifying as extinct counterparts. That means it probably won’t be the one you see that gets you; it’ll be the Clawstrider you didn’t know was there. Clawstriders also emit a debilitating sonic “scream” that temporarily stuns Aloy. As seen previously, Clawstriders can still be mounted in spite of their aggressive behaviour. Regalla soldiers were riding high on them to attack Aloy. This also allows players to override their Clawstrider and ride on their own Clawstrider. The Game Awards released a trailer that showed a variant with fire-spewing capabilities.

Shellsnapper

We first glimpsed this majestic giant turtle lifting its camouflaged body from a swamp after encountering Aloy in the debut trailer. The Shellsnapper, while it looks amazing, is actually a fighting machine that ambushes anyone trying to intrude into its territory. You can use its neck to bite prey such as snapping turtles, fire pressurized water blasts, and even extend your neck. There’s also that pesky shell protecting it, meaning players will have to find clever ways of toppling this beast.

Tideripper

Under the seafloor is the Tideripper. This aquatic creature resembles an plesiosaur and follows the same prehistoric themes as several others machines. It controls the ocean and filters sediments out of the water to accumulate resources. While it may look harmless, Tiderippers can attack Aloy either on land or in the ocean.

Sunwing

Sunwing flying across the West at great speed is breathtaking. This Pterosaur-like device’s wings are made of flexible sun-absorbing panels. It is likely to provide power for itself. Guerrilla stated previously that Sunwings are more vulnerable to solar energy while they’re stationary, and are less alert when in motion.
