The Matrix Awakens, ‘an Unreal Engine 5 Experience’ for PS5, leaks

The Matrix Awakens is a Matrix “experience” of some kind, and potentially the first widely playable Unreal Engine 5 demo, according to leaked artwork that appeared online Thursday.

Posted on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, the image shows a city clouded in that classic Matrix-green hue, with lines of code scrolling by. “The Matrix Awakens” appears at the top in the franchise’s font and art style, followed by the phrase “an Unreal Engine 5 experience.” The image was found on the PlayStation Network back end with “no details” except that it is a PlayStation 5 product, according to the Reddit post.

Epic Games has yet to release Unreal Engine 5. This engine was shown for the first time in May 2020. Although there have been games that are in the pipeline using the new engine’s capabilities, they have not yet shipped. However, the leaked image only refers to this Matrix collaboration as an “experience,” not a game per se. It makes things a lot more complicated and confusing. Perhaps it’s something like Kid A Mnesia exhibitionRadiohead released a new interactive museum called, which was launched last month on Windows PC and PS5 by Epic Games.

It seems reasonable to conclude that it doesn’t matter what. The Matrix Rewakens is, it’ll be an interactive ad for the upcoming film Resurrections by The MatrixThe long-awaited fourth installment in the franchise is now available. It will be released on December 22nd at HBO Max and theaters.

We don’t know anything about it, other than the leaked existence of the image and the text that appears on it. The Matrix Rewakens. But with The Game Awards taking place between now and the new Matrix film’s release date, The Matrix RewakensIt seems that this is a possible reveal for the awards show which will start at 8 pm EST Dec. 9.
