The Legend of Zelda would look cool as hell as an 80s dark fantasy film

Zelda and Link are heroes and household names at the top of everyone’s minds, given the success of Tears of the Kingdom – The Legend of Zelda Its predecessor Breath of Wild. But the franchise has never gotten a live-action film release — though a silly animated series was made in 1989 — even as juggernauts like Pokémon adaptation Detective PikachuThe movie screens have been graced by the Legend of Zelda. Unbeknownst to many, a fan has created a trailer in which The Legend of Zelda is reimagined as an 1980s dark fantasy.

Video editor Dom Nero pays overt homage to Dark Crystal The following are some examples of how to get started: Labyrinth, even from the trailer’s opening. The fan-made trailer flashes the logo for Jim Henson’s production company, the writer and director behind these two films (and the creator of The Muppets, of course.) Nero edited credits at the end to show that Nintendo and The Henson Company created the movie, which was produced by Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Shigeru miyamoto and others.

It also incorporates famous scenes from The Princess BrideClassics that have become cult favorites Neverending Story — a film that I watched as a kid, and that I thought was a fever dream for years after. That film’s Hungry Rockbiter gets a cameo and genuinely looks like the type of enemy Link has fought — a Talus, probably — but with classic ’80s flair. The trailer also features iconic Zelda icons, such as the Triforce.

It’s a fun watch that inspires nostalgia for something that never existed (but perhaps could have). It’s possible that this is what the movie would have been like if it had come out at the same time as the 1986 release of the Zelda video game.
