The Gilded Araya at Final Fantasy 14 FanFest 2023 with Asura

Final Fantasy 14,Attendees of FanFest North America 2023 were given the chance to take on Asura, a Primal Trial which will be available through a content patch. In order to be in the same line as other potential Warriors of Light, I fought through the FanFest queue online (which required users to uninstall and then reinstall their app in order to make it work properly).

For those unfamiliar with Trials, they’re effectively 8-man boss fights players can participate in. They are my favourite part of the game. Final Fantasy 14,, so I was super eager to fight Asura and see what she’d bring to the table by comparison to previous Trials such as Heavensward’s Nidhogg, Endwalker’s Golbez, or Stormblood’s Susano. I pulled together my group while waiting for the line to move. It included James Galizio of RPGSite as well as Thallan, King Ma Ishtar, Worstluck NA Kini, and Ishtar. The final four in that line-up are five-time Legends, which means they’ve cleared all currently available Ultimate fights — some of the hardest pieces of content in the game.

While waiting in line, we talked about what Job Class we were going to play. I chose White Mage because it is what I am most familiar with. Although I enjoy both playing DPS and Tank, as Gunbreakers, I chose to play White Mage because I’ve done it before in previous Battle Challenges. We set up our hotbars and checked that we had all the skills we needed in the correct places. After chatting with each other and setting everything up, we were prepared to take on Asura.

As soon as we entered the fighting, everything was just the same. Asura was not difficult and, even though I’d been sub-lapping for more than three months, it wasn’t a problem to heal with the Sage. It could be because White Mage was easy to pick up again, that he is a very good player, or even because it’s a game you can easily get into. Final Fantasy 14,Asura, however, was a breeze. Very easy.

She possessed all of the traits of an average woman Final Fantasy 14,There are three main ways to fight: Telegraphed Attacks, Tank Busters (extremely powerful attacks that can only be used by Tanks), or orange AoEs which sometimes appear as rings and circles. It was possible to channel her larger self to create orange rings, which we had to avoid before receiving damage or a stack of vulnerability. I can’t speak on any of the music, because for some reason the audio wasn’t working for my setup. Before we knew it the fight had ended.

Asura fell, and we were victorious. We were all silent and almost shocked that it ended so quickly. Then we congratulated each other. Then we exchanged contact information before parting ways. I wished my team well on their next Ultimate clear, and told James I’d be heading back to my hotel room to cool down.

Part of me wonders if Asura was easy because of the group I was in, or if Asura is a demonstration of Creative Business Unit 3’s dedication to making content more approachable for all players. They did a great job if it was the second option. Unlike when Nidhogg released at the tail end of Heavensward, I can’t see people getting stuck and having to use Party Finder to clear the fight. If anything, I’m interested to see what her Extreme fight will be and what other mechanics will be layered on. It was an enjoyable experience, and it allowed players to connect, even though it only took five minutes.
