The card that breaks MTG New Capenna wide open has only 9 words on it

You only require one line of text for a The Gathering is MagicTo kickstart some punishing shenanigans, use the card. The following cards were issued in Magic’s newest set, New Capenna Streets, Deck-builders are excited about a six-mana-green artifact that can take control of games and stimulate table-flipping reactions. Allow me to introduce you to Bootlegger’s Stash.

Bootlegger’s Stash allows you to create a treasure token for each land you control when you tap that land.

Before exploring some of the specific applications that Bootlegger’s Stash has, let’s clarify why this card’s ability is noteworthy in the first place. The card grants all your lands to create treasures. This card is a valuable concept. Magic players sometimes refer to as “material.”

Take into account your every day MagicThere are two types of cards, lands and spells. For the most part, when you have lands or creatures, playing one card from your hand only puts one object or “permanent” on the battlefield. There are some exceptions to the rule, such as cards that can make tokens. Thraben Inspector, which makes a hint or Hordeling Outburst, will only represent one card but create multiple permanents on a battlefield. These tokens are the classic examples. What to do? Magic players refer to “material,” it’s usually this ability to create multiple permanents off one card.

Hordeling outburst creates three 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens using red mana to cast it as a sorcery.

Token makers don’t usually matter. Practically every set has them, and the majority see relatively little play because the in-game value these cards produce isn’t powerful enough for competitive constructed formats such as Standard or Modern. But every once in a while, a unique new token maker breaks through because it’s easy to cast, annoying to deal with, and the tokens themselves are good enough to want multiples.

Gideon or Bitterblossom were the format-defining cards. Their unique ability to create a stream of creatures tokens on difficult-to-answer permanents was something that older players might remember. Ragavan the Nimble Pilferer continues to be a favorite creature even today, in Modern format. Its ability to create ongoing treasure tokens with a weak, aggressive body makes it one of the most popular creatures.

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, is a planeswalker that brings human soldiers onto the battlefield and buffs them.

Bitterblossom is a tribal enchantment with the faerie word. It burns a life to creqat a 1/1 faerie token with flying.

Like previous token maker all-stars, Bootlegger’s Stash checks a critical box: It keeps producing material after it is played — treasure tokens, no less. You can extend your mana base’s range to include color restrictions and land counts. Popping off a half-dozen treasure tokens is fun once, but pull that trick two or three times in a single game and you’ve established a huge resource bank that potentially triggered some other powerful synergies. The decks with the highest amount of treasures can transform their lands into token producers, and they will soon be able to snowball quickly thanks to a wide range of outlets that allow them access to a vast array of widgets.

The Time Machine

One of the scariest applications for Stash is the threat of enabling an infinite-turns combo when it’s on the board at the same time as a two-mana artifact called Time Sieve. Best part? It’s as simple as combining both of your cards.

Time Sieve is an artifact. When tapped, sacrifice five artifacts to take an extra turn after this turn is over.

Since Time Sieve only requires five artifacts to activate, and Stash can enable at least six treasure tokens every turn, once the two artifacts are online simultaneously, your opponent better have some artifact removal handy or they’ll never take a turn again.

Academy Manufactor, Chatterfang

Among the limits to Stash’s potential is the fact that it only makes one type of token. While having unlimited mana via treasures may be powerful, ultimately you’ll need some tokens to use the mana. Stash is able to produce more material every activation with the aid of other token generators. Academy Manufactor, which can diversify your material production by granting you mana, card draw and life-gain effects, is the easiest one-two punch. Each treasure that you create with Manufactor is equipped with both a clue token or a food token. This allows you to use all your mana produced. Find a way to win by cracking the clues. Or, if you are under pressure to do so, get some delicious food to boost your score.

“If you would create a clue, Food, or Treasure token, instead create one of each.”

A legendary creature, Chatterfang, Squirrel General allows you to spam 1/1 squirrels each time treasure is generated.

A clue artifact allows you to draw a card when tapping 2 mana.

Food is an artifact that, when you tap the card and spend two mana, gives you three life.

Chatterfang is SquirrelGeneral can also be used to create creatures. This adorable predator hides among the legal-to play cards. Chatterfang is strong even without an Academy Manufactor. However, the effect gets stronger as more tokens are generated. Chatterfang or Stash will each produce an extra 1/1 squirrel for every treasure they find. Bare minimum, that’s at least six squirrels every turn while both cards are on the board.

You can get very out of control if Manufactor appears on the board. Every land you tap now makes three additional squirrel tokens. Assuming we’re still only working with the six lands you used to cast Stash, that means you can make up to 36 tokens every turn between squirrels and other widgets. So if you haven’t drawn a Time Sieve to take infinite turns, your practically infinite material should close out the game.
