The Callisto Protocol Exclusive Combat Deep Dive

Callisto Protocol attracted horror enthusiasts worldwide because of its horrific world and oppressive feeling of terror. How does it feel to actually play it? Here’s an exclusive interview. Game InformerInterview with Ben Walker, Striking Distance Studios’ design director. He explains how combat and dodging work, as well as the many gameplay options available.

Alex Stadnik & Marcus Stewart will be interviewing Ben about Callisto gameplay. They begin the discussion by discussing the fundamentals of combat. Callisto lets players manage melee and ranged combat to save Jacob as he battles Saturn’s dying moon. A trusty Shiv, shock baton and many other weapons will be at your side to help you fight the Biophage as well as figure out what is happening on the Moon.

Although it may look like an easy setup, this is only one aspect of the game. The key to success is how you approach enemy encounters. Callisto does not allow players to be overwhelmed. Jacob is limited in ammo, health and cannot go guns blazing to save his life. Striking Distance’s new dodge system will be a crucial part of combat. To dodge left and right, instead of pressing a button you must use the left stick. Although blocking works, it can cause you to lose some of your health. Callisto may have many things going at once, but Striking Distance hopes that this dance will lead to an exciting moment-to moment experience.

As if that wasn’t enough, the team also discusses how they use the PlayStation 5 Controller to increase immersion, upgrade trees and more.
