Street Fighter 6: Capcom Reveals Four More Fighters, Closed Beta, World Tour Details, And More
Capcom has revealed four more fighters joining the Street Fighter 6 roster alongside new details about the upcoming fighting game’s World Tour, Battle Hub, and more.
All of this Street Fighter 6 news came during Tokyo Games Show, which officially began today, and if you’re a fan of Capcom’s long-running fighting game series, strap in because there’s a lot.
Let’s start with the fighters.
Ken Masters is the ex-US National Fighting Champion, ex-VP for the Masters Foundation. Blanka is a compassionate defender of nature, adventure tour guide and Dhalsim, a yoga and monk master. E. Honda is a worldwide sumo wrestler.
Here’s what Capcom senior manager of social media and community Andy Wong has to say about each, according to a new PlayStation Blog post.
Ken
“We know the community has been waiting for this one (yes, we’ve seen the memes). Ken Masters is an ex-VP and former US National Fighting Champion. Ken Masters has fled his family and business after being accused of masterminding a criminal plot.
As a legend in the Street Fighter series, Ken’s core move set remains similar to his previous iterations. Hadoken Shoryuken and Tatsumaki Senpu -kyaku Make sure you check. Also, his Street Fighter V Dragonlash Kick kick and Sprint move are special. New to Ken is the Jinrai Kick, a forward-moving roundhouse kick that can be followed up with three different options to reflect Ken’s quest to clear his name.”
Blanka
“A kindhearted defender of nature, Blanka has become an adventure tour guide, confident his intimate knowledge of the jungle will serve as a springboard to fame—and a comfortable life for his beloved mother. You can visit Blanka’s tour in his Ranger’s Hut stage by the river where village life is set on a lush green backdrop.
Blanka wouldn’t be the wholesome beast he is without his usual Electric Thunder and various Rolling Attacks. Because Blanka-chan plushies are so plentiful, he has had to modify his move set after trying to sell Blankachan dolls in Street Fighter V. Blanka-chan Bomb can be used to throw a doll down to the ground. Blanka can touch it with an electric special move and the adorable little creature will sprint towards his opponent, exploding in mad rage.
Dhalsim
Dhalsim is both a monk, yoga master, and has been a guide for many souls in pain. Although he is averse to conflict and prefers to keep things peaceful, his inborn hatred of evil makes him want to dole out harsh justice. In the Dhalsimer temple stage, the elephants are seen returning. Here monks practice yoga amid the candles and enjoy a serene setting.
Dhalsim uses his fire-fighting skills from previous games but also has other ways of releasing the flames that can be used to reach all directions. Yoga Fire is again horizontally travelled by Yoga Arch, Yoga Arch has the ball of fire in an identical arc trajectory to Street Fighter V, while Yoga Comet can be fired downwards when Dhalsim’s airborne. Yoga Flame returns as Dhalsim throws large balls of flames in his face, while Yoga Blast is fired at an upwards angle to counter the effects of air pressure. Dhalsim has the ability to still teleport, float and solve his problems.
E. Honda
E. Honda is a sumo wrestler who wants to promote the sport worldwide. However, his frequent globetrotting has kept him from being promoted to the top rank. He’s also an expert chef renowned for his mouthwatering chanko stew.
E. Honda fans are just like the other three World Warriors and will love his move collection. E. Honda’s trademark Hundred Hand Slap and Sumo Headbutt, Sumo Smash and Oicho Toss are back. The V-Skills he learned from Street Fighter V are Neko Damashi (Sumo Spirit), and Sumo Headbutt (Sumo Smash). E. Honda’s new move is Sumo Dash, where he moves forward with a traditional sumo shuffle and can be followed up with more pressure or a launcher.”
World Tour
Capcom revealed World Tour back in June, calling it an “immersive single-player story mode that would push the boundaries of what a fighting game is.” Now, the company has provided some more insight into what this mode will be in Street Fighter 6. Your journey begins at Buckler Security in Metro City. Here, Luke acts as your coach and this is where your story truly begins.
“World tour offers the most robust Avatar Creation features that stretch the limit of what a character creation tool can do,” Wong writes. “There are tons of customization options to reflect your personal style and flair. That avatar creation menu contains several pages of options you can tweak.”
You can choose your avatar’s body type, height, proportions, upper body, lower body, muscle definition, skin color, and body hair. Your avatar can look built or soft. You can also customize your hair color, eye shape and iris as well as eyebrows, nose, lips, eyes, ears, nose, hairstyles, facial hair, cheek depth, jaw size, and ombre hair effects.
You can freely change your avatar’s gear in Street Fighter 6 by buying new gear at shops or earning it by progressing through the story mode. There are four types of gear: head, body, body, foot and whole sets. Plus, gear isn’t just cosmetic – it affects your strength and other stats.
“Luke (call him ‘Coach’) will be your World Tour Guide as you begin your adventures in Metro City,” Wong writes. “As you progress through the story, you’ll meet Masters who will take you under their wing and teach you their style and attacks. Your relationship with them will grow stronger and you’ll be able to learn Master Actions. Use them to open a battle, and you’ll kick things off with an advantage, or some of them can even be used to destroy wooden boxes and barrels, or leap to faraway platforms. Master Actions, while convenient, do consume Drive Gauge, so always keep an eye on how much you have left in the tank.”
Battle Hub
Wong says that the avatar created in World Tour and built upon can easily be taken to Battle Hub. This is another key mode of Street Fighter 6. This seems to be the central hub of all Street Fighter 6 online.
“One Battle Hub can host up to 100 players at the same time,” Wong writes. “Players can use emotes or chat to communicate with each other. Of course, make sure you check the Hub Good Shop to show off your fashion when you’re out on the floor. You will also find a variety of arcade cabinets in the Battle Hub. You can play arcade-style Battle Hub matches using cabinets placed in reverse. Matches will start when both players are seated on the opposite side. Having audiences change everything…and turns a mere fight into a thrilling spectacle. Spectate a Battle Hub Match, and bear witness to glory.”
At the Game Center cabinets you can enjoy classic Capcom arcade games such as Street Fighter II or Final Fight. There’s also the Event Counter, where scheduled tournaments will be held, and finally, there’s a DJ Booth, where you can select your favorite tracks to listen to in the Battle Hub.
Extreme Battle
Extreme Battle is a new addition to the Fighting Ground of Street Fighter 6, and each of these battles contains a “Rule” and a “Gimmick.” A “Rule” is the condition that must be met to win the match. For example, one rule might be “first to get five knockdowns wins.” A “Gimmick” is different. A bull could run down a level and inflict damage on anyone who can’t jump. Capcom claims this mode will allow people to have an entirely new experience with Street Fighter 6.
Closed beta
Capcom announced that Street Fighter 6 will have a closed beta. It will be open to all players from October 7-10. It will feature cross-play for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam, and it will include ranked matches, casual matches, battle hub matches, open tournaments, extreme battle fights, the game center, and Street Fighter 6’s training mode. There will be eight playable characters: Ryu Chun Li, Luke, Jamie. Guile. Kimberly. Juri.
Last, but not the least: Two more Real Time commentators were announced: KosukeHiraiwa und H.E.Demon Kakka.
