Stranger Things creators making new live-action Death Note for Netflix

The Duffer brothers are the original creators Stranger ThingsDeadline reported Wednesday that, has started Upside Down Pictures Productions and is already working on some new Netflix projects. One of their most prominent projects is the live-action version of Death Note. Stranger Thingsspinoff, as well as a Stephen King adaptation.

Netflix is trying a live action version for the second time. The Death of NotE, the first attempt was an adaptation of the movie that was published in 2017 and which had been somewhat loosely modified. While details on the Duffers’ version of the series are scant, it’s clear that the new Death Note series will be completely separate from Netflix’s previous take on the story. Also unclear is what the Duffers’ role will be on the production outside of their new company helping to develop it.

Additional to Death NoteUpside Down Pictures also has a live action version of the film. Stranger Things spinoff. The story for the spinoff comes directly from the Duffers, but it’s not clear if they’ll directly create and run the series, or if their role will be more limited this time around.

The studio will also work on an adaptation of Stephen King and and Peter Straub’s The TalismanThe novel was published in 1984 as ‘The Duffers’. Along with the Duffers, they will develop this series. Stranger ThingsCurtis Gwinn (co-executive producer) and Curtis Gwinn (writer), Paramount Television, and Amblin Entertainment. A new project will be produced by the team. Stranger ThingsJeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews created stage plays and an original series.Age of Resistance: Dark Crystal).

Deadline’s report also notes that, despite all of these plans, the Duffer brothers are currently focused on wrapping up Stranger Things with season 5, that series’ final installment.
